Does any one have any idea of how to get windows that are stuck shut open. These windows are not painted shut and used to be open on a regular basis but they have been shut for a few years. They are painted wooden windows that are in metal channels. I was thinking of trying graphite, or WD 40 but I thought I'd ask if any one has any ideas. I know that the problem is probably our humid weather but since I'm now using that room for a bedroom, I don't want to melt!

I'm not sure, but the graphite/WD-40 idea would be my first try - well, actually, second try. Give some gentle taps around the windowframe channels with the handle of a hammer - not hard, just enough to maybe loosen any gunk that's sticking them shut.

Good luck! We have several beautiful old wooden windows in wooden frames that have been painted shut for the last 100 years probably, and they're going to stay that way!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Thanks I'll give that a try. I didn't think about trying to loosen them by rattling them a little. Now since I'm in the middle of moving, I wonder where the hammer is.

Silicone spray is also a good option. It's what my dad always used when he was helping me with the windows at our old house.
