I've used Purina Goat Chow in the past. I don't use it any more because it is so expensive here and I have been doing reseach on feeding grain to dairy animals and relized that there bodys weren't ment to digest grain. right now I am feeding them a little bit of grain mixed in with some alfalfa pellets until I can come up with a better solution.
Anyway, It is a good brand if you are going to feed grain.

I think so. Are they getting forage too? You really only feed grain if they are milking. Plus I learned that you shouldn't feed a buck grain with corn in it. Corn can cause lots urinary problems. They also say never to feed your buck pure alfalfa. It's to rich for them and their bodies can't handle it well. Can cause kidney problems too. I feed my bucks good quality hay and let them out to graze and they seem to do fine.

i agree with hannah. i feed hay good grass kind. mine do steal alfalfa pellets from belle. so i have added a 1/2 cup of a regular goat chow to a few alfalfa pellets for the girls due to kid. they are huge. normally only hay and forage. we dont use any medicated feed here. i think it can cause them to be resistant to treatments when they need the medication. i also feed only loose minerals. its hard for them to get enough mineral from a block. their tongue gets sore. i use a ruminate loose mineral in a tub free choice. there are lots of gals on here, like hannah. they have way more experiance than i do. this is just what i do here. sherrye

Sherry, you do so well! I love reading your posts and learning from you! It doesn't matter how many years I have raised goats. I am always learning something new everyday! Also, thank you for accepting my friend request on face book! :)
Another thing I do is buy a solid mineral block and I break it up. They do sell loose minerals here but it costs $16.95 and the mineral block costs $10.95. Also our farm store just started carrying Redmond's Mineral Block ( it looks like a big red rock and it says it's for horses but I have talked to other goat owners and read different articles and they all use this mineral block for there goats and they say it’s the best!) which I have been looking for forever!

I don't feed my kids grain at all. I only feed my milking does 16% all grain. I am really concerned now about corn. I am going to stop feeding it to my animals. Unless I can find some organic heirloom corn. But that could be really pricey. I wish I had a few acres I could just plant corn for feed. But across the road and all around they are planting the GMO corn. I am afraid to even grow a little bit of corn because it might interbreed.
Anyway, my kids just get browse and hay when it's raining. They will be fine and be healthy without grain. And yes, bucks and wethers should NEVER eat corn. It can kill them.
