I used to drink it a good bit, but now can't find it in the grocery store (and as of yet haven't made my own). It was apparently pulled from shelves due to possible alcohol content from the fermentation. I started drinking it for the fermentation-- I was having some really bad flank pains and symptoms of a urinary tract infection and saw it in the store one day so decided to try it, and it helped alot! Then I would drink it a few times per week but they stopped selling it here.

I have had my scoby a few years now. I love it. I used to have really bad heartburn but not anymore. I think it also helps with arthritis. That plus apple cider vinegar. I have made it with different teas and sweetners. I made some the other day with some grape juice I had canned last year. It was really good. So I think I will try other juices. I have not been able to brink it since Friday due to a procedure I have to have in the morning and miss it alot. I can already feel stiff fingers again.

I have made a scoby by leaving some of the tea in a glass on the porch for a few weeks. I have heard it's not as potent doing it that way. But it can be done.

I don't currently have a scoby or any tea going, but it does seem to be good stuff. y daughter swears by it and we have a funny story at our local post office about when she mailed me my scoby. It was wrapped and double wrapped yet somehow the package still leaked. I live and work in a small town and the post office is across from my office. The postmaster called my office about a possible "hazardous" leak from my package and my secretary had to call me about it and I had to try to expain kombucha and scobys to them both. I was in the next town so my secretary went over to get the package and they had to open it to inspect. My secretary thought the scoby looked like a chicken breast! :) LOL

I just mixed some organic raw apple juice with this last batch of kambucha. It is so good. I might have put too much apple juice because it's really sweet now. So maybe next time I won't put so much. But it's good and really changes it up.

Kristin, the SCOBY that forms when you put aside finished kombucha tea is really the same beast as one that grows in with a "mother" culture, it won't be weaker or anything. Might just take longer without the higher concentration of live organisms a mother SCOBY lends. Also, if you ever add too much juice, just let it sit a day or two at room temps and it will continue fermenting off the juice sugars, and you can get it as tart as you want!

Cheryl, some folk say that because it is a live culture of yeasts and bacteria, that those who suffer from candida infections should stay away. However, some holistic practitioners have used kombucha to help treat sugar addictions as well as maintain good sugar blood levels. I have read that the Salvation Army has used kombucha to curb alcohol craving in addicts. Personally, I have been drinking it for several years and I find it to be a great probiotic, and it helps relieve my joint pain. It does work as a detoxifier, too - I cannot take it the day I take my arthritis meds (a low dose of chemo - it doesn't seem to affect my allegy antihistimine). But the other 6 days of the week, I drink it. After nearly 40 years of not being a soda pop drinker, I had slowly developed a big habit and wanted to get off it but I found water lacking taste. Kombucha helps me get off the soda, and again I find water enjoyable. If you brew your own kombucha (it is easy peasy!!!), you can control the flavor a great deal, and it is very inexpensive. Also, it tends to lower your appetite temporarily, and is somewhat diuretic, so water drinking with regular consumption is a good thing. I think I am babbling lol. I love kombucha and make it my mission to bring it to as many folk as possible. If anyone wants a SCOBY culture and easy how-to instructions on how to brew it, just send me a line. I am happy to send one on for the cost of shipping or a little barter!

We have made our own. I found the bottled stuff again at our local Earth Fare this apst weekend. Bought 2 bottles. One ofr the ride ho,e and one for later.

Can you start a new culture from the bottled stuff too? Has anyone ever tried>

I like this b/c it's a bit fizzier than the home made. Or maybe I just got impatient
