I am so thrilled to be a new farm girl sister! #2880 I was raised in a military household but my parents were from farm families. As soon as Daddy retired he bought a small farm. I was lucky to be young enough to spend four years there before I went to university. We had a large garden, a few fruit trees and American Saddle horses. I saw a different side of Daddy on the farm. Heck, I got to see him period! I remember wondering how he knew so much about so many things. With his example I took to the country like I was born to it. Then came school, then a career and raising my boys and somehow I always lived in the city. I could not imagine managing even a small farm, working a day job and raising the boys by myself. Now they are grown and I have my small farm and a fiancee that is as happy to be there as I am.
I have so many hobbies/interests that fit right in with the sisterhood. I'll list some here and the rest will come up in time I am sure. I like sewing, embroidery, knitting and rug hooking. Outside interests are organic gardening, chickens, backpacking, camping in our Scotty Hilander and kayaking. I'm a good cook but would usually rather be outside working. I do love to can and make jams and jellies. I love to read.
I live 30 min west of Nashville. If there are any farmgirls in the area let me know I'd love to get together.
I am so looking forward to this fellowship I can't imagine sleeping tonight!

Hello everyone! Thanks for the welcomes. Most appreciated. I feel like a kid with a new puppy. Just can't put the computer down for reading the chats past and present!
Hey Kris-You are the closest sister I've found so far. Is there an active chapter in your area? I can't seem to find one. I love North Ga by the way. I've done a bit of hiking and kayaking there. Mostly the A.T. and around Ellajay.
Have a great rest of the weekend!

Hey Connie, I am from the northeast part of Ga. Suwanee. We are having quite a bit of rain. How about you. I am new at this chat. It has been so much fun for me too. I have checked all day long. Good thing that it is raining for I would be in the garden. Have a great rest of the week. Deb

Yep, I'm still on the computer. This puppy needs a rest! It's raining here too and 44 degrees. I am so ready for spring! Last week end's weather was just a tease. I know Suwanee! You are south of Dahlonega right? It is a really pretty area. My sister in law is in Smyrna Ga West of you. What do you like to grow in your garden? We grow various veggies and herbs for now. Blueberries, blackberries and apples will be planted this fall.

Connie, I don't know of a chapter here. But there are a few farmgirls around that I have met. One in Appison. There is a hiking club here too. We are going hiking at Lula Lake on Lookout Mt. next Sat. if you want to come. I could get more info for you. It's a beautiful place. It will be a 4 mile hike. Slow pace. Not too strenuous. Thank goodness.

Kristin, Is this a hiking club hike? Is there a camp ground near by? Never mind, I'll find one. I'd love to meet my first farmgirl sister. A hike too? That is icing on the cupcake! It has been a lazy winter for me so "not strenuous" sounds good to me. I'm 54 so a few months of inactivity take their toll. Send any info you have. I plan to bring my sweetheart and leave him at the camper. He can nap at the drop of a hat so he will be fine. :)

There is Cloudland Canyon not too far from Lula Lake. It has camping facities there and is beautiful also. It has alot of great hiking there as well as a water fall. You can look it up on line. I will let you know more about the hike. My hubby's the same way. He site and he's out. No matter where he is. They's get along fine. I think the club is called North Ga. hiking club. I haven't been yet.

I just looked at the email about the hike. It's April 2nd and we will meet down the road from me at Camp New Dawn at 8 am. That's where we walk every day. Beautiful there too. This whole area is just amazing with all the great things to do and places to go. I hope y'all can come.

Kristin, I'd like to meet you at the Lula Lake entrance if possible. I'm assuming you would arrive there sometime after 8am. :) Do you think that would be OK? We will stay at Cloudland Canyon the night before. Doesn't make sense to back track. Looking forward to meeting you and seeing the area.

LOL! I'm real comfortable with tall hippy chicks. I remember Woodstock. I wanted to go so bad. Just a tad to young to hitchhike or I would have been there! There was a commune near here called Summertown. Ina Mae Gaskin was a midwife there. Pretty well known. :) I worked with her for a few weeks in nursing school. One of the most memorable experiences in my career.
I'll bet we will know each other when we see us!

Hello Judy, Thanks for the welcome. I've enjoyed reading your posts. The weather is so wet and cold here I was online a lot this weekend. I have learned so much just reading old posts it is incredible! And talk about like minded people! I never dreamed there were so many like me out there. I feel like I've found my tribe!
