I bought a good amount of these galvanized metal Vintage chicken feeder bowls {from an automated feed system in a now gone chicken farm}.
I have been brainstorming some new ideas on how to recycle them without the obvious bird feeder use. I use a few for my chickens but do not want them as wild bird feeders or waterers. I have plenty of those already. lol..

Anyway, I had a succesful bounty of thyme seed sprout and I thought about planting one or two of these feeder bowls with thyme, placing a pillar candle in the middle where the hump comes up.
I know to drill holes but will the container be deep enough for the thyme plants?
I thought these would make a very nice centerpiece for the outdoor farmhouse style table I am in process of building. This goes out by the garden for our family weekend bonfires.

OH, and if you have other suggestions for it's use, fill me in!

Those are so nice. I think they would be deep enough for thyme as it is a ground cover so they probably don't go too deep anyway. I think that would be beautiful on a table with the candles in the middle. I will start thinking about what else you could use them for. So many possibilities.

fantastic! I was not sure if it would work since I rarely do container gardening. Mostly big clay pots if not in the ground.
I'm thinking I may start some more thyme seeds and make a few up for our yard front produce stand to sell with the garden bounty. I have far too many of these things~ about 8 left. Or rather, so claims my husband. ;)
