Last year I moved to a new property & planted my potatoes...then when I went to harvest them found that some burrowing creature (mole?) had been eating them Of course Mr. Critter couldn't just eat a whole potato, there was a few bites out of one here & there or half a potato eaten. Little gnaw marks & tunnels in my potato bed. I was so bummed since I didn't even know it was happening until it was too late. SO....I need a solution for my planting this year. Would it work to dig out the whole bed & put maybe wire mesh underneath so nothing could tunnel in? Is there an easier way anyone knows of?
Easy solution, plant them above ground...in an old livestock water tub, washmachine tub, or anything similar...

Heidi- I plan on planting potatoes this year for the first time. I am going to plant them in "containter" as well. It seems like a better solution to avoid the issue of critters etc. Should be fun to see how it works out. Good Luck! Smiles, Laurie Farmgirl Sister#1403
