I'm hoping to grow/store most of my baby food for our new daughter. I live in Zone 6, and am figuring out "Extra" things to grow which I haven't before to use in baby food. (Of course I'll be growing herbs and other veggies which WE will use, this section of the garden will just be for baby)
So far, the "baby garden" will be: Corn Peas Pole Beans Summer Squash Broccoli Strawberries Carrots (Which never, EVER grow right!)
I'm hoping to try: Sweet Potatoes Watermelon Pumpkin (For halloween!) Beets
This being my first, what do you all recommend that will grow in my area that I can use for baby food??
Also, there is a paw paw tree over on the neighbors property, and they've said we can have all the paw paws and even take the tree. Do you think paw paw would be safe for the baby once she gets to the solids stage?

I love this idea! I even considered using the veggies in our garden this year for Organic Baby Food. A friend of mine is due this April and I ran it by her, sort of feeling her out about it and bless her heart, she just didn't get it. Alas, not all girls are farmgirls. I would add spinach to that list. Fresh spinach is sooo much better than grocery store canned stuff. And for those carrots, thay like deeep loose soil they can stretch out in. Keep me posted, and I will let you know if I think of any more veggies!

OOOH!! Spinach! I didn't think of that one! I'm tempted to do carrots in a raised bed...we'll see. I even wanted to make a little sign designating "Baby's Garden". :)
I wish more people were wanting to know where there food came from and what was in it! If they knew what we are feeding our kids from birth, I think they'd choose something better for their children!!!

Hey Megan! When I grew carrots I grew them in a raised bed. I love the Baby Garden sign. Now my hamsters are spinning on that wheel that I call my brain, trying to come up with a design for the sign!

I was going to say I don't see spinach, but then you have it later. that's my #1 choice. Plus the peas. Gotta have blueberries too. And lots of apples. Carrots need sandy loamy soil so they can grow nice and deep. So add sand to your raised bed. Have fun. I just had ny garden turned yesterday! So not much longer. If we keep having these nice 78 degree days I'll be planting sooner than I thought!
