Finally! We have had some cold nights and warm days so the sap is flowing! We've collected just over 400 gallons of sap so far and are boiling it down for syrup!

I'll be right over for some pancakes or french toast Jennifer! As Homer Simpson might say it, "Maple Syrup hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm". It hasn't started at our house yet and I can't wait!

We miss sugaring so much. The fire barrel for our sugaring pan rusted through a few years ago and we are saving up to replace the unit.

We remarked today that there was probably going to be a good flow today because the weather is so warm. We have maybe 2 1/2 feet around the base of the trees so they will not bud ofr a while.

The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL is having maple tapping demonstrations every Sunday this month. I am a volunteer there and tomorrow is my shift to help out. I made a poster of the pictures my "Windy Pines" cousin Michele sent me of tapping at her farm to put up at the demonstration. We've had a great run here in IL with our above freezing days and chilly nights. I am amazed to hear how many gallons of sap some of the other farmgirls have gotten this season. Nothing beats pure maple syrup!
