I have been wanting to try this and achieve a more natural look but with some coverage.
Can anyone recommend a brand?
What are the steps involved in application?
I am so out of the cosmetic loop :)

Hi Sharon!
I LOVE mineral makeup. I use Chartreuse Mineral Makeup (it will be on my website tomorrow, YAY!) and it's fantastic. Ingredients are very important to me and this makeup is as natural as it gets and it's also vegan friendly! Unlike some other mineral makeups, Chartreuse Makeup doesn't require a ton of blending. Whatever you choose, try and get a sample or trial size set just in case you don't like it. Application can vary, depending on the brand. With some, you take your kabuki brush, dip into product, tap off excess powder and apply in swirling motion over face and BUFF, BUFF, BUFF (to blend)!
With Chartreuse Makeup, you can apply wet or dry and build coverage. I use a rose mist (also Chartreuse) and spray on my cheeks as they are some what dry. I then take my brush with product (I sprinkle some powder into the container lid first, then dip brush) and immediately apply on cheeks while still damp. I apply the foundation on the rest of my face dry. The brush drys pretty quick, so once I got the hang of application, it goes on pretty quick.
The important thing is to experiment until you find the product and application technique that works for you. You could also go to youtube for application techniques. Have fun:)

I use L'oreal's true match Naturele Mineral Makeup. I love it and have been using it for the last year or so. Just make sure you moisturize first. I use a liquid make-up around my eyes, I find the mineral makeup is a little dry for my crows feet.

I only wear makeup for performance, but I really like L'Bri. Very good coverage, easy to use and all natural with an aloe vera base. The makeup is made to work with their skin care products (which are also awesome)

Hi!
I tried mineral makeup but found it way too heavy and drying for me. I recently tried Physicians Formula "Organics" powder veil. Love it!! Doesn't dry my face out like regular powder and is talc free. My skin is so much more comfortable and it looks good but natural. If you don't like the mineral ones, try that. I just got it at the drug store.

Bare Escentuals. I get from QVC. I became especially impressed when I had some WEIRD bumpy scaly rash cover the whole lower jaw area of my face. I felt like I had leprosy. That night I saw their infommercial & they were showing how to cover blemishes. Since I already had the product, the next day I went up & covered my ugliness. On our way to church, hubby commented on how my face had cleared up overnight.
Plus the foundation has an SPF of 15.
You can always get some neat kits with extra stuff in them besides the foudation, & QVC has a no hassle return policy.
Product is all natural, only crushed minerals. |

I use Mary Kay mineral make up. I like it better because it looks SO natural. It wears well and blends with my skin tone like a dream.

Is mineral makeup better in humidity? I've never been a huge makeup girl, but since moving to South Florida, I've quit wearing it all together. I feel like it just gunks up on my face. Now, I'm graduating and need to look professional for job interviews etc (unfortunately, its been proven that women who wear makeup are more likely to be hired, recieve better wages, and are promoted faster).

| I have sensitive skin and have tried Avon L'Oréal and the physicians . I broke out with all of them . I will say that they all had nice coverage and looked very smooth and natural . I'm just touchy I guess |

I whole heartedly recommend Bare Escentuals, too. they say they are the original mineral make up. Don't know,it didn't matter to me. I don't know anyone who has broken out with it. I agree that purchasing it from QVC is the way to go. 30 day return- no questions asked. A very good thing with make up that you are unsure you will enjoy. Give it a thought.

Bare Escentuals - and QVC was the way to go! The only thong I noticed about the mineral makeup was that in cold weather it did seem to get a little flakey (could just be me ).

For me, the trick to wearing mineral makeup- is using a tiny bit of lotion before you put it on. It helps it stay on your skin a little bit better. I love it. It's the best sort of make up for me and I always get complements on my make up when I wear it.

I have been using Bare Minerals for about 5 years. I'm currently having some issues with my skin, although not related to the mineral foundation. I have ordered from QVC, but pay so much more in shipping than if I order from BM online. From them, $50.00 or more is free shipping, although it takes a bit longer to get the product. I use the Bare Vitamins Skin Rev-er Upper as a foundation year round, and I add the Prime Time in the winter when my skin is a bit dry and flaky.
The only problem I've had with the make-up is a burning sensation when I get hot. I've had friends complain of the same, and since we live in South Arkansas, it's hot here about 9 months out of the year. I finally called the company and they told me some people react to the zinc in the product. I just know not to wear it when I'm going to be working outside and to stay as cool as possible the rest of the time! I have used a trick to help with blemishes, etc. I have the Bare Minerals Multi-tasking Bisque (which blends wonderfully with my skin.) I used the "foiling" technique they recommend for eye make-up to make it stick to the icky places. I wet my brush, dip in the powder, and apply. I lightly dust with the mineral veil, let set a minute, then apply the foundation over, touching up if necessary. This provides all-day blemish coverage.
As I said, I do have skin issues and will be seeing a dermatologist next week for a "cure"! If he mentions anything good or bad about my products, I'll be sure to share. Right now, everything breaks me out, including store-brand mineral make-up. (Ran out of the good stuff.) Keep your fingers crossed for me!

When I was 8 y/o, we lived in Cocoa Beach Fla. Every picture of me shows a sweat beads across my cheeks! Yes, it will work well. Now that I am getting some lines, I use a primer lotion from Korres under. Bare Es. makes a mineral veil that us just for that. Sometimes when I notice I am reddish, I put on rare minerals, the night treatment, and I look all even and fabulous.

thanks for taking the time to answer my question, trish. i think i'm going to pick some up with next weeks paycheck. i'm just so tired of spending money on makeup that doesn't do what i want it to...i've become very selective.

Another thing
When you apply, use very little. When I first triedit, I didn't trust the instructions on the video or TV, because such a small amount was used. If you use too much, it will look cakey, but trust the small amount, & it gets better as the day goes on, I believe. |

I also use Bare Minerals and can highly recommend their products. JCPenny's Sephora stores carry Bare Minerals. Bare Minerals also has their own stores you can go to.
Someone mentioned that they felt mineral makeup was heavy - if you're getting that feeling you've applied too much of it. It has to be applied very lightly. The first time I tried the mineral makeup it felt like a hard mask on top of my skin and I hated it. I had a salesperson at another store tell me she thought it would be good for my skin and when I told her about my first experience she asked me to let her apply it and see how I felt about it - totally different feel.
I also second the suggestion to use a moisturizer before applying. I use a lighter moisturizer in the summer and a heavier one in the winter with no problems. Bare Minerals also has a skin prep called Prime Time (if I recall right) to prep your skin for easier application. I use Smashbox Clean Slate face primer instead of the Prime Time.

I also love Bare Minerals but I get it from www.sephora.com. They offer free shipping and returns are very easy. Physicians Formula is my second favorite. I have really sensitive skin and both of these work real well for me.

I use mineral makeup from http://www.everydayminerals.com/. I just found it using a google search a few years ago. My face is very splotchy (is that a word?)with large dark spots. When I use the concealer and base, it looks very smooth and clear. You can get free samples, which last longer than it says, which is good. You pay postage which is about $3. Their makeup is very reasonably priced compared to other mineral makeup I've seen. No...I don't work for them, I just really like their makeup. My daughter likes it also. Except for eyeshadow, it's the only makeup I use.
2 pluses are that their products are made cruelty free, and it's based in Austin, TX. |
