...something like ebay only, perhaps, on a smaller scale.
If this idea is considered, we could still make and receive payments through Paypal, only please don't kill us with all the fees, as ebay does and hits into your profit at every turn(!), thus alienating many sellers. My suggestion is 25-cents to list and 25-cents if the item sells - no matter the listing price, no matter the final selling price. On your end, an excellent profit would be realized since it would be hard for anyone NOT to use such a good and reasonably priced service.
Keep it simple; keep it low-priced for its users; keep it a sweet and hard-to-resist alternative to ebay. And I for one would definitely use it. Honestly, I think thousands or even millions of others would literally "flock" here for the auctions!

Hi Ladies!
What an interesting idea! I am not sure how that would work on the forum as it is now. But I do have a way you could do a free auction here on the forum right now.
A couple years ago I helped a lady in Moscow sell parts of a huge collection of various linens and such. What I did was I made a post about the auction and took pictures of the items which I uploaded to that post. I then posted the starting bid price and a time the auction was going to end. Instead of making several posts for items, I just kept modifying that original post. Then I instructed those that wanted to bid to place their bids via email. I updated the bid amount several times a day at the pre decided time, I closed the bid, removed the item from my list and emailed the Farmgirl who had won. Once I recieved payment either through Paypal or through the mail, I shipped the item with a tracking number. It worked out really well.
I am not sure that it would be feasible for the wonderful people at MaryJanesFarm to make an auction site. The forum itself doesn't support the type of coding you would need to do paypal buttons and automatic bidding like you do on E-Bay. So if they were to design a site they would have to pay for a new site, programming and set up etc. I know Gabe does a lot of work for the forum for just regular maintenance and troubleshooting so I would assume they would need to hire at least another person if not more to do work on the auction site. I think the idea is a great one, but there would be a lot of expensive hidden costs that could quickly become prohibitive.

Hi Alee,
Sorry you misundertand. Definitely not on the forum, and certainly nothing as monstrous as ebay; it would be a separate auction site associated with the rest of the MJF brand. Of course there would be links to the auction site from the forum site.
There are several inexpensive auction software programs out there that can be individually tailored, www.readysetauction.com for instance and just as an example, and a Google search of auction software will bring up several. It's not as difficult or expensive to get an online auction site up and running as maybe you think. In any event, just something to think about.
