I love the foamy hand soap, the kind in the pump dispenser, what I don't like is the price. Has anyone made their own, I have a few pump bottles, just need to know what to put in them. Thanks for any ideas!

Hi Gail,

I haven't made my own but from what I understand after reading online it's the container that causes the soap to foam. So it would probably worth it to make a one-time purchase for the container and then re-fill using a recipe like this:

Hope this helps!

Yes the container is the foamer, I have bought a few I have saved and cleaned out.
Any liquid soap can be used, I would water it down some so it foams better.

I had one of the containers that Pampered Chef sells and you did need to add some water with the soap that you used. I would just try it with one of the containers that you already have.

I do make liquid hand soap and it is a struggle to get it the right consistency for liquid soap but loved it when i used it in a "used" foam container instead. I used 1 part soap to 4 parts water when mixing it.

Thank you all for the wonderful, informative posts. I will be making my own "foamy soap".

I make mine with a couple of squirts of sunshine concentrate and a few drops of essential oil.

I have made homemade hand soap...with success! Lol. It did take me a while to figure it out. I really ought to do a blog on that because getting the consistency just right IS a little bit tricky. I grated up a bar of my desired soap (I used a clearance bar from Pier One). It was a triple milled soap, so it was quite dry and hard. I SHOULD have allowed the grated soap to soak in some water overnight to soften it before heating it up. I'd recommend it.

Here is a how-to: http://www.ecofriendlydaily.com/home/hands-homemade-liquid/

BUT, do this in a double boiler (or set a big Pyrex mixing bowl in a large pot of water w/ about 3" of water in the pot). And yes, you will stir, stir, stir....UNTIL you come to the 'rope stage'. This is VERY important. I didn't do this the first time I attempted making this, and it looked like green cottage cheese, lol! I reheated the funky batch until I got to the rope stage...the mix will look and act like stringy marshmallow cream....you'll know, trust me. When it does that, then add in water to make it to the consistency you like and one that will go through a pump easily. You really want to make sure there are no undissolved bits to clog a pump. Let it sit until cooled and then I ran a hand thru the mix to check for lumps. At this point, I added some lemongrass EO and it really made a lovely hand soap.

Just takes a little practice, but it is pretty fun ;0)
