| My husband and I have recently moved to the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. Right now we are staying in an old cabin. In the process of looking for some land. Love it here. Came from the city and the pace down here is great. Planning my first garden,making quilts, and learning about decorating gourds. I saw Mary Jane on the food channel and couldn't wait to find out information about her. Looking forward to hearing from others and learning about new things about country living. Jonilea |

Welcome, Jonilea. What a pretty name. It sounds like a mountain girl name!
I love North Carolina, and we stay in cabins, too, when we visit. I think I could live there, and am so glad you are seeing a dream realized. I also quilt, and garden. You will feel right at home here!

Nice to hear from you, Jonilea. It'll take you a few days to read through all the posts, but they're worth a cup of coffee for time well spent. I've never been to your area, but we've talked about a road trip that direction. I'm always amazed at how much open country there is outside of Alaska. When flying to Philadelphia about 10 years ago, I saw more and more development the farther east we got and so whenever I see or hear of someone with any kind of acreage I have to wonder where it is. Keep us updated on your progress!

| You're in just one of the wonderful areas of the Blue Ridge, I have folks in NC and remember when I was little traveling to Granfather mountain. This past fall we took a trip down the mountains begginning in Waynesboro, Va. to Grandfather Mountain. I plan on making another trip in late spring. Good Luck and God Bless. |

jpbluesky, do you stay up toward Boone? My husband has been doing some work for one of the companies up there. You also said you quilt. I just purchased Electric Quilt 5 for my computer. This is really great it has over 33,000 fabrics scanned already in it and you can scan your own stash. I've been taking pictures of roosters and changing the file to put them in my quilts. I've been pretty bad for the last week and ahalf getting on this and making all kinds of printed quilts. I really appreciate everyone that welcomes others.Thank you mountainnana

| I told my husband I had a note from Alaska,he thought I was crazy. I bet its beautiful up there. How remote are you? When I moved here 6 months ago my kids and friends thought I was nuts. Espically when I sent a note to an old classmate and told her I was chopping wood. Thats been a real sight. I love it here and feel like this is where we should have always been. Jonilea |

My granddaughter calls me Nana! When we are in North Carolina we stay just over the Georgia state line near Dillard and Clayton. Butts up against the Nantahala Forest. 25 acres, 4 wonderful cabins, plus an authentic cabin in ruin on the property. It brings me such happiness to sit on the swing on the porch of the cabin in the mornings with coffee. There are wild turkey, coyote and we see and feel so much beauty.
Your new quilting program sounds so fun. I have a similar one for designing cross-stitch patterns, or needlepoint, anything that works from a grid pattern. All of the DMC colors are in it and lots of symbols. Can't scan, though. I bet you are having fun with it, it certainly sound like it. By the way, how will you incorporate your quilting into guoard art, as you mentioned in another topic section?
I tell my husband I am part of a chat room full of women who love farm life and he chuckles. I always said I would never be in a chat type website and here I am, getting to talk to women from so far away, who have the same interest as me.

jpbluesky- my husband laughs also. He laughs whenever I come up with something new,but he always brags on me to other people.I always ask my husband if he new of anyone else that would have moved to the mountains,he always replies no.
On the quilt program I can make my own and wood burn the pattern into the gourd and I use watercolors to paint then seal. Jonilea |

That sounds really cool. A new look to gourd craft. I have often seen decorative gourds but have never know quite how to use them to decorate or use. Give us some ideas!
