This is Fuzz. (Named for the ratty looking cat at the end of the movie "Sweet Home Alabama) She, (who we thought was a "he" and so did the vet) was sitting hunched up in the right-hand lane of US Highway 30 as I was travelling back home from Canton 1/21/11. Cars and trucks were gong around and over her. I freaked out as I drove by. I couldn't just keep driving wondering if this cat would make it. I turned around and headed back eastward. I was between Massillon and Dalton and had to go clear back to Massillon to get off 30 and turn around. On the way back my mom spotted the cat trotting up 30 still in the Westbound lane. So far so good. Not dead yet. I got turned around and headed back westward and we kept our eyes peeled for the cat. This time she was just beyond the yellow line of the left lane hunched in the berm. I pulled off and put my flashers on and waited for a clearing in the traffic. I made my way to the cat and she wasn't sure about me. I just hoped she didn't dart into traffic. She meandered over to the guard rail and was stumbling and shaking. She let me pick her up. She never freaked out as the cars and trucks zoomed by at 65mph. I crossed the road and was going to let her go down in the weeds, but had a last-minute change of heart and walked her back to the car and gave her to my mom. Mom wrapped her in a coat. Mom could feel the cold coming off of her through the coat, her pants and long-johns. I wasn't sure how she'd react to being in a car. But, we got back on the road and she did well. Soon the coat started to move...She was taking a bath! So was so dirty and skinny!!! I called the vet and dropped her off on my way home in Wooster. She was Leukemia negative, so I gave them the go-ahead to give her the works. She only weighed 4.5 pounds and had a really bad bacterial infection in her ears. She's been with us a couple of weeks now and is eating to make up for lost time. She's friendly and may or may not be pregnant. She has some mammary developement, but I'm not sure if its post-wean or pre-delivery...Time will tell. I can't beleive she never got hit that day. She must have used 8 of her 9 lives!!!

Oh Renee, you are such a ANGEL for rescuing her. That poor cat. I love the way she was washing herself, and just look at her eating.

Your an Angel Renee lucky she found you.. I found a little kitten under my wheel well about 2 months ago she was crying for 2 days but my son and I could'nt figure out where it was comming from we looked everywhere finally I looked under the car and there she was about the size of my palm she is now named INKY cause she is all black with dark green eyes she has found a home with our family of chickens,dogs,rabbit,ducks and turkey she loves to play in the backyard so sometimes I think it is just meant to be. |

renee...i'm very familiar with that stretch of road--she truly was lucky to have you watching over her!!! you are an angel to take her home!!!!!

Hay Ya'll Renee, thats one lucky cat, or, maybe, your the lucky one! I too have rescued almost all the dogs here on the farm...more to the point...they have rescued me. One was shot and has only three legs now, fastest dog on earth! I saved 12 cats from a sweet lady, hoarder. I spayed/neutered all of them and most are still here on the ranch. Most recently, someone dropped off a pony. I checked all around and contacted vets and different groups but no one stepped up so Little Bits is all the rage around here since he is Stud. That will change soon however. That way he will be in the pasture with the donkey and 4 other horses, one which was taken off the slaughter truck at the last minute. (She was slready loaded and her ticket was punched, so to speak...) I think it wonderful that you have brought her into the fold of your home. Please be an advocate for spay/neuter in your area so PEOPLE will not have unwanted kittens and puppies and also castration for other livestock like my pony. What a shame that PEOPLE want a "pasture pretty" but don't take time to train and care for them, it is usually ignorance so we have to ALWAYS be teaching.

I'll keep everyone updated on her progress.
I just did what God has convicted me to do. I feel that if I wouldn't have done something, I would be held accountable. We are all stewards and I did what I think everyone should do, or at least try. My hubby wsan't so thrilled about another cat (we'll be up to 8...) but, they all find their niche and serve their purpose. I'm thinking she could be my "natural" rodent control in the chicken coop. She could have a box and litter pan--her own little Hilton.
But, I forgot to add in the first post, as I was driving frantically looking for a place to get off and turn around here comes a local vet in his mobile vet unit and passes me in the hammer lane!!! I know who it was too!!! Boy was I irritated!!! Maybe he didn't see her, but its was hard to miss an orange cat on a gray highway...

it is a good story to get up and read right off. she will be a devoted kitty i am sure. they know when someone helps them. when i ran over sloopy she knew when i picked her up i was helping. now that she is ok i cant get close again. she loves me from a distance thanks for the lift happy days sherrye

10 years ago this little darling was brought to me, just days old still had her eyes closed,her mama would'nt take her.so I raised her on a bottle.Her name is Tally she is my shadow.Love her dearly.I'm so glad you turned around.Bless you!

Sweet, heartwarming story to read on this very blustery day! I, too, have kitteh's picked up from far flung places and they are the best boys, ever. Now 12 and 14, I know that there will be another kitteh round the bend.

Bless all of you for those stories, and for taking in those adorable furbabies. I am a big advocate of animal rescue, as my pets are all rescues. One of our cats, Badger,who is just the sweetest, was originally found in a bag on the side of a road. My vet thought he would make a good companion for us, and over ten years later, he is just the biggest mushpot! Rescued pets KNOW they were rescued. 
Wish you could see his eyes, they are bright turquoise. Renee, love your little orange tabby.

Oh I just love stories like these! We live kinda sorta near you and know that road. I can't believe people were driving OVER her! So glad she has a new home and MJF's should give merits to people like you for sure.
We have a similar story.........we discovered two kittens (well, mostly grown by the time I found them) that I began to feed every morning. It didn't take long for them to start coming up to the house and peer at us and our already family of 4 cats in the house (we have a full view front door.) Weeks went by, lots of coooold weather. DH finally gave in and brought them in. One stayed and the other clearly wanted back outside. Sissy stayed and Smudge found a farm out in the country with a heated barn and other critters to keep him company.
Sissy below (maybe you can see her shaved tummy from being fixed. She also had ear mites and she's now on the mend. We just love her so and she has such a cute personality.

Me thinks you should place a call to said vet and 'kindly' let him know that you (YOU!) had the heart and decency to pick her up.
