I'm so excited, I just had to share this with my farm girl friends. I went on an interview at a museum gift shop this week and they want my altered books to put in their shop.

They said their customers are looking for the unique ooak gifts and no one is making them, so I was accepted! Yippie!

I added lots of fluff to my recipe journal and then I started on a wonderful book I found from 1946 called "Rainbows". I'm putting pockets and a shadow box and lots of embellishments to the pages.

Then, I'm taking a vintage Nancy Drew book and making it a secret compartment book. It was a panel of 6 women and they all oohed and aawed when I said the secret book. They were thinking of things to put it them to hide from their kids and grandkids. lol

When you add excitment to your work it really makes your creative juices flow!

Congrats. It's wonderful when you can be passionate about something, proud of your creativity, and others love it too! The things you've created sound wonderful. People will surely enjoy the use of them. How clever you must be! God bless.

Thank you farmgirls! I'm putting the last touches on my first secret compartment book. I'll unveil it this weekend! You'll love them!
See ya then!

I just found three more books to make into the secret compartments book.

Feedback please!
Question: Would you buy one that had just one big space for goodies when you opened the book?
Or:
Would you buy one with the secret drawer/compartments that you don't see when you open the book?

Both. It really depends on the person. I like extra secret pockets, but some folks, I think, would just like the one compartment. It is easy to see what you have that way.

I know that didn't help. sorry.

I see more of the one big compartment and very few drawer ones. I like the drawer idea myself. I found really large thick books that I thought making the one large space in would be perfect for those. And, the smaller thinner books for the drawers.
I love something pretty to put important papers in so my altered books with pockets will be just the thing.
Thanks, for your thoughts.

I love your ideas & to be honest it would depend on the book if I wanted it to have one big drawer or more. Example flower book I might want more drawers for small pressed flowers or small things with flowers on them. A mystery book i might want one big drawer to hide my old love letters/notes in. A book on jewelry i would definitely want more drawers as it would be a place to put my antique jewelry in so no one knows its there but me. So i think doing both depending on what the book title is & what you see it being used for. Still great ideas...Michele' #2622

Marsha - I think both types of books are really fun, truly! There's just something about secret compartments, though, that bring about excitement and anticipation and the wonder of childhood, don't you think? I'm sure whatever you decide to make, people are just going to love it! You GO girl! Hugs - Nini

These are all great ideas! Thanks! I am really enjoying the step-by-step process while making these. Seeing the first one come to completion is so exciting. I can't wait to get started on the others.

The Woollcott Reader 1935 edition-
I left a few of the first pages to hide the compartment from view right off.

I decided to line the sides so these are just propped up for now to show you. I wanted something to match the cover color. I may use lace too, or handmade paper havn't decided for sure.
I'm selling this one for $20 includes shipping!
