We have always used cloth napkins and such, but what do you (who don't use paper towels) use for things like draining fried fish after you take it out of the oil? or bacon? Thanks in advance for your ideas!

I use a fine mesh strainer that is kinda bowl shaped. I have also used cloth napkins.

I could never give up papertowels, but with 4 dogs and a toddler, I just can't. I use them in my compost, at any rate. For me, it all equals out--if I use rags to wipe up messes, I'm still using a lot of water to do laundry more frequently...

As an aside, when I've been OUT of papertowels, paper coffee filters to the trick in a jif for bacon.

I use a flannel towel for greasy stuff such as fish or bacon when needed, but I do keep a few cheap paper napkins on hand so sometimes I use them too. We go through one "family" pack of napkins about every 3 months or so because we usually use cloth.

My father in law (and now my husband does this)always used a brown paper sack to roll the fish in the cornmeal before frying and it also works great for draining.

I use newspaper, or brown paper bags that I get from the store.
This is a great way to reuse. It works better than paper towels.

Today is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
