I grew up around chickens at my gradnmothers house and just loved them. I wanted my child to grow up around them also, so I purchased 6 chicks in 2008. They were 7 days old and just adorable. I had to keep them in the living room until it warmed up outside and boy if you could have heard my family in just amazement that I would have chickens in my house let alone in the living room. Well the Ladies will be 3 years old in April. We always have a party in the hen house on their birthday. It is a blast to watch people walk up and see them for the first time in our yard. Hope taht everyone is having a great day.

Hi Lori. Welcome. I used to live in Savannah and at the beach too. Love it there. My parents are near Statesboro. That's cute that you have birthday parties for your chickens. I have had many of them in my house too.

I've got 40 babies in my house right now. I love waking up to their little cheeping in the mornings. I DON'T like having to clean the box out. They won't have to be in too much longer. Our temps are warming up.
Post some pics of the party if you have some! We'd love to see them.

Aren't chickens the funnest?! I have 11 hens and one very laid back, easy going, and peace keeping rooster named Chief. He is a Buff Orpington. I have a new hen, got 3 out of a bad situation, and she is a buff laced Wyandotte hen and my Black Australorp hens don't like her! But, hopefully they will all get along and live peacefully, I know the roo doesn't like the hens fighting and will get in the middle of them.

The Ladies sometime have their moments when they are all making noise at one time and going at each other. You can pretty much hear them in the front yard when they are doing that. Chickens are really fun to watch especially when they are scratching and getting bugs. They can toss some serious dirt and grass. Great to hear from everyone.

Chicken watching can be as much fun as people watching. My husband and kids are very talented at making up words and conversations for the actions the hens are doing....funny!

I love everyday with my hens. But I have a great roo named tom. He is a naked neck. He is so great! I can't ever imagine a day with out goats and chickens. They are my entertainment!
