We went and looked at the most lovely farmhouse to rent the other day. We currently live in military housing, stacked on top of each other. The house is big and spacious (over 2000 sqaure feet!), is on almost 70 acres, and overlooks a pretty little lake. The only problem is the bathroom and kitchen are severely run down. But it is a place I can let our 3 year old run around, can have chickens, and have space to breathe. Maybe I will convince him yet!

Good luck, Elizabeth! It sounds lovely - even with the bathroom and kitchen in bad shape. As long as everything works properly, I'm sure you can make it look nice and functional. My sister's husband was in the military for > 30 years. She's lived all over - never anywhere for more than 4 years... She is amazing at making a place homey and inviting. I'm sure you are too. It seems like something you develop over time... If you ever have the time and want to do a day trip, drive to Morris - its ~ 60 miles SW of Chicago. Take care,

Good luck with this. There is nothing like raising animals to help children grow. Chickens are an awesome choice! Time to make the poster size list of pros and cons to life on the farm and "hide" it somewhere only "you" will find it in your military housing. ...sometimes words unspoken speak louder than your voice.
Goals, Dreams, Wishes is another good list to make for the 1, 5, and 10 year time frames. Once you write them down, they are easier to make into reality; especially if your other half gets a chance to read it and digest it on their own time and then you can work together to make some lists for your family together.
