I haven't made it out quite that far, but South Dakota is beautiful! The farthest west we made it was Devils Tower, which is just over the border into Wyoming. However, I was there with a cranky 10 year old (she was hot. It was July- duh! Of course it's going to be hot!), a cranky husband since the 10 year old was cranky, my mom who had taken a spill off the motorcycle 2 days before, so she could barely walk and her boyfriend who is just putzy and takes pictures of everything. And that just made my husband crankier... Needless to say, the day could have been better. Devils Tower was cool though. I left the slow and cranky people behind and went to enjoy nature on my own! I'd love to head back out that way in a few years and at least make it to Yellowstone!

Have you ever thought about taken the Empire Builder train? You can pick it up in Milwaukee and take it all the way to Seattle. It goes through Glacier National Park, and during the summer volunteers from the park ride on the train and give presentations in the observation car. My husband and I have taken the trip back and forth twice now, and it really is something!

I will definitley have to check in to that, especially since I have a cousin in Seattle! That sounds like a wonderful trip, and much more relaxing than the road trip variety...

Just to warn you, the sleeping berths are tight, as are the roomettes. The top bunk (which I always get stuck sleeping in...damn!) is kind of miserable as you're hanging about a foot away from the ceiling and held in place by a massive fishing net, but the lower bunk is much better and you can look out the window at night. The food is included for passengers with sleeping rooms. It's not the best food I've ever eaten, but they have a simple selection that - unfortunately - does not change from day to day. Bathroom facilities are of the port-a-potty variety and very small.

Don't forget Southeast Kansas. Nothing much here to see except me. Sounds like you could plan your trip just hopping from one farmgirl to another. That is kinda what I plan to do this summer except I am going East. So, where will you be comming from?

Hi Lisa,

I live in Montana right now. I would be glad to answer any questions you have. Come visit us and I will take you around my area. Montana is beautiful. What are you interested in seeing? There is Glacier Park that is beautiful in the Northwest area, Yellowstone National Park is pretty with Old Faithful that goes off twice a day in the park. Lots to see, let me know where your interests are.
