i know it sounds crazy MAYBE... BUT... we have sooo many flies in summer. they love my front door. they love my ceiling in living room. so i learned they are attracted to light colors, especially white or butter cream. i am with all of you painting and doing flooring. we did get our loan mod. so now before i unpack i want to paint. i need a light bright color. i am worried about color drawing flies in. fly paper is white with black dots. so any ideas or know how for color less attractive to a fly? is this even possible? help if you can. thanks so much happy days sherrye

Sherrye There is an old mansion in a town where we used to live and the ceilings were all painted light blue because supposedly flies don't like blue. It must have worked because they were always blue and being a ranch town there were alot of flies.

Kathy....You're right about painting porch ceilings blue! When we bought this old barn of a house the porch ceilings were painted a lovely pale blue...I am pretty sure it was a "Victorian" thing to do. And, supposedly it also helped keep spiders and wasps at bay-Not true in our case. One of the very first things we did when we bought our 100-year old plus home was to rip down the horrible decaying porches-Sure enough my DH nearly knocked me down trying to get off the porch after discovering a very old and very large hornets nest in one corner of the front porch. I still laugh when I remember the look on his face when he saw the nest! Two sweet little old ladies happened to be walking buy when DH bolted down the front walk leaving me to fend for myself-And the look on their faces was absolutely priceless!

oh kathy thanks so much. there is such a big brain of knowledge on here. yipee. i think that makes so much sense to paint blue sky color. i shall look into a light blue. i am going to use pristine paint. no VOC no odor no gas off smell. i have used it before. i get a little nerve excitotoxicity but it passes in a few days does any one know of a less toxic water base paint. i have used milk paint before. to expensive and doesnt seal. thanks again happy days sherrye
