We have laminate "wood" floors in our house. I've never had these before and not sure what the best way is to clean them. We've used the Swiffer Wet Jet for awhile and I hate it...it leaves a residue and I hate that it's basically antifreeze. Why would I want that in my house? I'm looking for an all-natural way to clean them. I tried vinegar mixed with water in varying degrees of dilution and it doesn't work...the floors were still streaked and ugly, even though I have dried them on my hands and knees! (And I don't want to do that again...we have too much floor surface for that!) Any suggestions? I'm getting really frustrated with having ugly floors.  |

| When we first put in our laminate floors I bought a kit that came with a microfiber mop and a cleaner. It's not organic, but so far it's the only thing I'm ok with using on the floors until I find something better. I'm afraid to use my steam mop because I don't want it to cause the 'laminating' to come undone, with the moisture and heat, even though it's just a little bit. The cleaner I have is called AquaShine for Hardwood and Laminated floors. It says it's "Enviro Biodegradable and Phosphate Free" so it's better than some other cleaners. It works good for me and doesn't leave any streaks that I've noticed. It comes in a spray bottle, so you mist the floor then mop with the microfiber mop. Doesn't require rinsing, and it dries pretty quick too. I've been happy with it so far, it's been about 2 years. |

April, I have laminate floors. I use a dry swiffer sweeper or microfiber pad between mops to keep the electrostatically charged dust and dirt that the vacuum doesn't pick up under control. I've found that a mild solution of household ammonia and water works best to mop. This mixture cuts grease, loosens grime and leaves the floors shiny and bright without streaks. I usually mop my floors about twice a year.

I have Pergo in my kitchen and use the Shark vacuum/steam mop. My floor looks like new again. I'd tried the Swiffer and it was awful, same goes for the water/vinegar mix. I've been using my Shark for over a month and so far all my floors look superb from it.
I would try some of the suggestions to see if they work for your floor. If not, get the Shark! It does a superb job, runs on water only and comes with 4 washable mop heads.

I just received a Shark and was hoping to be able to use it on my Pergo floors. Thank you for posting your replies. This really helps me out. I am using it on my floors tomorrow.

| Thanks for the replies. I am determined to only use very natural, very safe cleaners in our home. I have a 10-month old who crawls around on the floor...I don't want any nasty residue left on her hands. I'm not even sure what brand or type of laminate floor we have because previous owners installed it, but will see if I can find out. I sweep with a broom and dustpan, then drymop with a microfiber cloth, but need something to really clean them with...I'll look at each option you all suggested, including the steam mop. A friend has one I could borrow and try out to see if it works for us. Thanks so much!!! |
