The Recipe Club wins! Geesh, can I just say that it's been a loooong wait? On that note - I'll post the rules for us to follow later in the day. I think I've fine tuned it so that those who are as impatient as I am can dig in ASAP.

Happy reading, ladies!

UPDATE:

I received a reply from the Customer Service Representative at BAM. She said that the book club selections are usually posted on the website at the beginning of each month. I hope so, as I'd like to have a selection that is geared for that month (February for Valentine's Day, December for Christmas, etc.)

So, I've revised the rules to reflect this and hope that giving everyone a week to choose their selection will be enough.

Once Upon a Book guidelines:

1. I will post a link to BAM's (Books a Million) monthly book club on the first of each month. Hopefully that is ON the first of each month! OR; go to booksamillion.com, click on 'Book Clubs' under the Services column at bottom of page, then wait and click on Books A Million Book Club in the scrolling window when it comes up. Choose your selection from the first 10 books in the list. (Given that the BAM list varies so greatly in the number of titles, keeping it down to the first ten makes it more manageable for all).

2. Then, using the email button on my post, please email me your choice rather than posting it on this thread. This makes it so much easier for me to keep track of who has chosen what.

3. I'll tally up your choices and post the winning book on the seventh day of each month. Depending on the day of the week this falls on and if I'm working on that particular day - I'll post it as soon as I can.

4. Once you've finished reading the book, please answer the questionnaire below (in blue) regarding the selected book. Feel free to add any additional thoughts following the questions. Don't worry about not finishing the book by the end of the month, simply read at your own pace and answer the questions when you can.

5. To answer the questions, copy and paste the questionnaire below (in blue) to the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the page.

6. Anyone can join at any time, we'd love to have ya!

7. If you'd like to, include your age in your questionnaire. This would give others insight into your answers based on your age group. Of course, this is purely optional!

Questionnaire

1. Which character do you like the most, and why? The least and why?

2. What passage stood out in the book to you?

3. Are there situations and/or characters you can identify with, if so how?

4. Did you learn something you didn't know before?

5. Did your views on a subject change after reading this book?

6. Have you had a life changing revelation from reading this book?

7. What major emotion did the story evoke in you?

8. At what point in this book did you decide if you liked it or not?

9. Name your overall favorite thing about this book. Your least favorite?

10. If you could change something about this book, what would it be and why?

11. Rate this book on a scale of 1 - 10 (didn't like at all to loved it!). Discuss (optional).

Happy reading ladies!

I couldn't even find The Recipe Club at my library so I ordered a copy from Amazon too. And I found a couple of other books I've been wanting to read too. :)

Our library has Recipe club but its out, I'm first in line reserving it, but will order one if it doesn't make it soon.I sounds like a good one to pass on to a reading friend or swap later.

Work today - beginning of my and hubby's vacation tomorrow! Hmmm, wonder what I'll be doing on a snowy cold night under a warm afghan? Can't wait for my book to arrive.

I happen to be an avid reader already and happy to join this group on your reading adventures this year. I am also a new FARMGIRL SISTER (just arriving this January 2011) and happy to be reading along and hoping to make some new pals too.

Just placed it on hold, it might take a while.

Quick question: is this a book a month, or 2 weeks?

Thanks!

Good question, Breanna. Once we get established and you ladies desire more than one book a month, it's certainly an option we can consider.

It might be challenging for some to do more than one book a month due to book availability, time constraints, job, etc. so let's see how this goes!

Welcome!

Don't do what I did: I was thumbing through the book and was looking for a list of characters page that some books offer (I know there's a name for it but it escapes me at the moment) and thought that maybe, for some odd reason, it'd be in the back of the book. So, I skimmed through the back few pages to find said list when.......AAAARRRGHHHH.......I saw enough of one page to know how it ends. Am I moron? A twit? Yes to both. Oh well, I'm still enjoying this book immensely - I can't put it down. Hope one and all will like it as much as I do so far.

And welcome to our newest members! SantaTeresita, I see in your signature that you either crochet or knit - which one? Anyhoot, welcome!

Okay ladies, here we go! Here are the list of questions that will pertain to each book we read. Copy and paste the list below (in red) to the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the page and fill in your answer(s) accordingly. Feel free to answer as few or as many as you'd like.

Don't be shy, let us know what you really think.

Happy reading and I look forward to hearing from all of you farm chicks on what you thought of our first selection. Let me know if there's any problems.

Karen - Great questions! I started reading the book last night on my Kindle and finally at 10:45, I had to make myself put it down since I need to get up at 5:00 in the morning. I won't say anything yet for those that haven't started the book, but very interesting characters!

I'm tossing around the idea of naming our book club 'Barnyard Book Babes'. Thoughts?
