Hi, I'm in the peidmont of North Carolina. I belong on a farm but when we moved here almost 8 years ago, we quickly found out how expensive land is here. We were under stress to find a place to live, and we settled for a place on the backside of a subdivision. Although we are considered part of the s.d., we do have a plot of woods next to us and trees in the back which afford some privacy.
I garden about 3,000 sq.ft. and have a backyard flock of chickens. I really desire to be more in the country and have more animals but I'm trying to be content with what we do have.

I'm glad to find this site and hope to make some friends here. I'm a keeper in the home (housewife) with grown children and this life can be lonely.

Wendy,

Welcome and come on in. You won't be lonely anymore - not with all us farmgirls to talk to.

Welcome to the farmgirl family Wendy!! Like Debbie said..you won't be lonesome anymore!!! Just jump right in...we love to talk!
sounds like you are "blooming where you are planted!" and that is a good thing. I wish we had lots more land too, and I just do what I can with what I have to do it with too. Arn't chickens fun? I can't imagine not having them anymore...I could watch them for hours!!
I have grown kids too...but also a crop (4) young ones still at home too. It will be fun to hear more about you!!

Thank you for the welcomes. I've been exploring the site and have enjoyed the entries about herbs. I grow several different kinds of culinary and medicinal herbs. Looking forward to reading a lot more here and getting to know ya'll.

Hi Wendy,
I too am a farmgirl wanna be. Although I haven't got the backyard flock of chickens or a garden. ..but I do enjoy growing flowers and doing a good bit of photography. I am a stay at home mom with 3 children..and yes, sometimes it gets very lonely..I have really no friends here and have been here for 16 yrs. It has been difficult to find friends here in a transitory/military town where most folks get transferred to different areas frequently..plus it's just sometimes hard to make friends. That is I think one of the main reasons I joined this list..for some gals to talk to..as I don't have any "girl friends" here.
Wanted to say welcome to the group too and I think you'll enjoy it. I have and am hoping to make friends via the internet too. Have a great day.

hi wendy
I am a wendy too Sunshine is a nick name I earned in high school that never went away. I lived on a ranch (farm)as a child 125 or 175 can't remember which ( my grandmothers land). I miss that I live in the city now but in time my husband and I will live in the country he grew up in town but likes the country more. So in time I hope to have a house that looks like a big old barn ( maybe converted from a real barn I think that would be fun.) Welcome and have fun here

have a lovely day
