I hate to say it, but I'm a total sugar junkie. I put sugar in my coffee and tea and...you know, everything else. So how do you kick the sugar habit? It's really hard when you live in the South and you've been raised on sweet tea, lol!

I have honey and stevia lurking about, but I guess honey really isn't much better than sugar (I use organic evaporated cane juice).

Any other addicts out there?

It's not really a bad habit if you stay moving all day. I'm the same way about sugar and honey. I have to have one or the other. My doctor said as long as I spend more time on my feet, even if it's just at a slow pace around the house, than I spend on my backside I'm fine. I don't eat much meat and I'm restricting my fat intake to natural forms only and in small quantity. I would rather do without fats than sweets. I have even gotten to where I like the 98% fat free chicken bologna on dry bread since it means I get to have honey ice cream later!

I've been a sugar addict since I was a kid. I was raised in Texas and Oklahoma where sugared tea and desserts after every meal were mandatory. I finally have some control over it. I started by cutting out all soft drinks. There are lots of things to drink besides them. That took me about a year to get used to that. I did notice my headaches went away when I stopped sodas. Then I stopped putting sugar in my coffee. I just use milk. That seems to soften the blow of no sugar. I got used to that so I can't drink coffee with sugar now. When I get a sugar attack I drink organic 100% apple juice or some other 100% fruit juice that does not have any sugar or corn syrup added. You have to read the labels carefully. I still have chocolate sometimes but no other candy. I still like a good pumpkin pie but I reduced the sugar. As a result of this change I lost 40lbs. This was over a 2 year period but that was OK. The benefits outweigh the habit. Also for anyone who has arthritis, cutting out sugar and corn syrup will substantially reduce the inflammation. I know, it worked for me. Good luck to you Amanda. As a fellow Texan I know what you are going through.

One more thing, artificial sugar substitutes trick the body into craving more sugar substances. Don't use them if you want to stop the cravings. And all almost all of them are poisons to the body. Do some research. The facts are terrifying.
