sO sorry you have shingles. i know first hand how awful they are. i use a herpes pill when it gets real bad. its an anti-viral that helps some. i also use hot baths with epsom salts to relieve itching and burning. you must have a chronic illness that puts wear on your immune system. then the old body cannot cope. here comes those shingles. i am so sorry you are suffering today. not much help am i. sorry sherrye

I found that alternating ice packs and capscacin ointment was the best. I was very lucky to only have an abbreviated outbreak across my back before the meds kicked in and stopped it cold. My doc saw me when the shingles were only about 25% across my middle back, so she got me right on aciclovir (sp?)and that kept it from continuing around my body. That was about 15 years ago and I still have pain in the area where the lesions were. Not unbearable, just a reminder of what it COULD have been.

I have been dealing with the residual pain/irritation from an outbreak several years ago, driving my bonkers! I have been using lavendar essential oil in a Vit E oil carrier. It really helps. I thought to myself the other day how crazy life is when your armpit is the thermometer for stress in your life. argghhh.

My mother has shingles, and just the other day. I put some lemon balm leaves in hot water and let it sit for a few minutes. Use cotton balls or cloth & put on the painful areas. It worked for her almost immediately, relieving all pain. She also has it in her mouth, and dried chamomile (& peppermint for flavor if you want)in tea, helped with internal pain. Hope this helps.
