P.s. I've been playing around with the spelling of my name ( weird I know) and I've decided that I will stick with Hannah for good. Sorry I got you all confused. Hugs!!

I used to make butter at my grandma's when I was a kid. If I had a butter churn today I would make my own. So fun to do and tastes much fresher than store bought!

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

I decided to make my own butter for fun one day and was amazed at how little time it took. I now make my own in small quantities once a week or so and it only takes 15-20 mins. I simply shake the creamy milk in a large jar until it turns.

Lots nicer than shop bought butter - I really noticed how paler in colour it was so guess that means they are putting something artifical in the butter i was buying.

I have made it in the past and would use my electric hand mixer. The cream has to be room temp. Once I took it straight out of the frig. and it took so long I burned up my mixer. Do use store bought cream or fresh?

Marilyn, That is so neat! I wish we had a butter curn. Maybe someday! :)

Sue, That is the way I learned to make butter was shaking it in a jar. I love doing it but it takes me about an hour. LOL I can really taste the difference between store bought butter and homemade.

Cathy, I first started useing store bought cream but our local health food start has started carrying raw local cows milk so I'm going to try it. :)

Hugs,
Hannah

My mom made my younger sister and I shake the milk in a jar until we had butter . . . a chore I didn't care for!!!
As an adult, when we were milking jerseys (talk about "cream producers"!) I used an electric mixer to do it.
Now, I have an old fashioned churn . . . but no cows to milk!!! Oh well!!

I've made it several times. The taste was amazing! I used a mason jar and it took a while so I don't do it too often because my arms get numb! LOL!

If the milk or cream is room temp, it might not take as long to churn/shake the butter out. Filling the jar only 2/3 full is another trick to make things go faster. Or, you just need to find a bunch of energetic kids and have them pass it around in a circle. :)

Anyone see any "shake-weight"-type results from making butter by shaking it in a jar? Lol! I think making butter this way also justifies eating it - burns all those calories!
