Howdy!
I just posted in " Marketplace", to see if anyone does natural dying of yarn.
I am gathering up 2, 12 ounce skeins of undyed, " white" Romboulet wool yarn, which I would LOVE to have dyed a shade of purple, using natual or plant dyes. I am supposed to wear purple with blue undertones, vs red, due to my coloring.
The yarn is in those twisted skeins that would then be rolled into a ball. The yarn will cost me about $30 total, and I have NO idea what dyers charge.

Hi Mary - there are several things that will go into the cost of dyeing. How much yardage you want dyed, the natural material you wish to have the purple made from - depending on the color or purple and the strength will depend on how much natural dye material will be used. Then also the thickness of the yarn - because that will also effect the amount of dye. Then there is the cost of the time needed to dye the yarn.
If you wish I could price it out for you once I have that other information.

I kind of thought you did dyeing!
Thanks for writing back.
I can send you a sample of the yarn. I do not know the yardage- it is in a big, 12.2 oz skein, and I am getting another one from the farmer who raises the sheep/ has the yarn milled. I can ask her the yardage when she calls back to give me the pricing on the second skein I will need. She can probably tell me the yardage on the one I'm ordering, and that should translate to the one I already have- which I ordered 3 yrs ago...
I saw some pretty yarn dyed with cocheil ( spelled wrong) and indigo. I'm going to look at your etsy shop and see if you have any purples. I have not seen any plant / natural dyed yarn recnetly enough to know which materials make purple- which are luxuries, which are affordable.
Let me know what other info you might need.

Yes you do have a knack for purples!
Let me know about pricing when you have an idea.
Also, my project can wait until your dyepots are already a' brewing. It's not a high pressure job!

The yarn seller does not know the yardage, sorry!
