Okay, I am really digging back in my past, but it was such a good show, can you really change the channel when you see them? I was perpetually in love with John Boy and would have married him in a heartbeat - gee a man/boy who could do chores and was sensitive and loved books as much as me - I could even live with the John Boy mole lol - What were some of your favorite episodes?
I loved Elizabeth when she was little and always wanted to have a little redheaded girl I would name after her, but God did not see that in my plan.
Ewww while I am on the subject of old shows - do you all remember the show called Family with Kristy McNicol and Meridith Baxter Birney -I loved that show too and you can't even find old vhs tapes of it :(
there was just something about that show that appealed to me - but then again you are talking to a woman who can sit through hours of Nick at Nite - and the Brady Bunch- and let's not forget Mary Tyler Moore! Sheesh, my age is showing hehehe - how about That Girl!

I was at John Boy's wedding. I was acting at the time, in L.A. and we filmed the wedding at WB at the old house. I was a Walton Kin and we had the best few days! Even tho it was a muddy mess back there in the "swamp". Everybody was there - even the old ladies. We had a big turkey dinner with all the trimmings and at e it outside. I got to say "mornin' John Boy" to Richard, who was with his real new wife (forgot her name). He's a good guy. Good memories.

A woman after my very heart! I still love Richard Thomas, he is very talented, even when he is playing a bad guy - I think every one on that show was super talented and gifted and blessed to have all known eachother - Your life certainly sounds like it has been exciting!

My husband has an older brother who named his entire family after the waltons!! His wife is Mary so they don't have a MaryEllen, and the kids arn't in order. His kids are: Jim Bob, Jason, Ben, Erin, John (boy) and Elizabeth. Really! They live here in town. They even have a very old dog named Reckless.
I loved that show and still watch it when I can on re-runs..not enough to name my kids after it (although I DO have an Erin) but great show!! Great aprons!!

I cry every time I watch an episode!! I absolutely loved the grandfather, I wanted so much to have a family just like that!! I wasn't particularly fond of John Boy, thought he was just a bit too whiny for me.....sorry girls..... but oh, I loved that program. I get goosebumps when I hear the theme song. Loved Grandma and the Baldwin sisters.........what hoots they were. Ah, the memories.....I don't watch Nick at Nite but I loved some of the old programs that you mentioned Kathy!!! So aren't we all showing our age!!!

| Well, I'll share with you my love of the Waltons....I found the first season on DVD at Wal-Mart, remembered watching the reruns as a little girl so I bought it, then I had to go directly out and by the second season, and ironically enough, the third season is on order from Amazon and should arrive today. I'm only 25 so I don't remember many of the episodes, so it's like watching a new series for me! I would LOVE to have a family like that, one that loves each other no matter what and spends the evenings sitting around together. And I too love the aprons! I think Grandma is probably my favorite character. |

I just remembered something that you ladies might like knowing. When we made the John Boy wedding movie, Michael Learned, the Mom, had just lost her father. I remember that it must had been hard for her to work as they were close, but she was very professional and a lovely lady to everyone. Just a memory. It's hard to believe that show was all those years ago. It was a farmgirl kind of show.

The old woman who was to be put in a home that stayed with them for a bit, Maude I think, anyways, she reminded me so much of my Aunt Alice, a dead-ringer.It was Cora Beth who got on my last nerve. And come on gals, didn't John Walton look sooo good in them one piece long johns - Livy was a lucky gal.
I think in our hearts we all wanted a family like them - some of us are lucky to have that kind of relationship - but just think of it this way girls - we can all be like sisters in a giant family.
Does anyone remember the one movie where MaryEllen gets mad and calls them all piss ants? I still laugh when I think of that one. And didn't they have a cow called Chance? Ewww remember when the art teacher was sweet on Mrs. Walton? Memories.........light the corners and show the cobwebs of my mind

I loved The Waltons! Although when I was in high school, you were a dork if you watched it!! I just never mentioned it was my favorite show.
I remember calling my brother a "piss ant" and getting in a lot of trouble!!
I loved the closeness of that family and the fact that, no matter what, they were there for each other. My favorite characters were Grandma and Grandpa Walton. Now that was an enduring love!!

Ok, Guess it's time to "fess up"......I named my son Jason after this show...AND his middle name Matthew is after Marsall Dillon in Gunsmoke!! I loved the way Festus would say MathHEW!! Luzy

I loved the Waltons all through school too. I remember sitting on the floor at my sewing machine while watching the show. Yep - I used to be able to sit on the floor and sew! I don't know how the heck I did it, but I didn't want to miss an episode. I loved how even when they were mad about something or at someone, they all pulled together. Wish I had a house like that.

I have longed for a farmhouse like that all of my life - simple but ample with white clapboards - Livy was shabby-chic way before Rachel Ashwell dreamed of it - They lived simply but they had abundance in so many ways - ways that I think in this modern day and age we forget to be thankful for the simple things.
Now I am going to have to search ebay for vhs tapes to cheer me - this is making me wistful - I wish John Boy were here to help with the chores .....I am sporting a pretty farmgirl apron today Aunt George!

I put The Waltons as my favorite show anytime the question is asked. I have the DVD's as well even though it is on t.v. twice a day here and I watch it both times, whilst I am cleaning or mending, or whatever domectic chore I need to be doing at the time.
I named one of my birds Reckless after their dog.
I loved Maude, too. What a wonderful old soul!
My favorite is still the original Christmas movie with all the same children as the actors in the show, but the moma and daddy were different. The Daddy was off doing some work in another town and they get word there was a bus wreck on Christmas Eve. The family is worried that the daddy is hurt. I recorded it on VHS years ago and still watch it.
I've referred to the Waltons and their house on other topics on this forum...especially about the decor. Farm style. So necessary then, so popular now.

I almost posted something about "The Waltons" a few weeks ago! I LOVE that show!!!
I watched it when it was on back in the '70s and over the years still find myself watching it when I can.
Back in the mid-1980s, I lived and worked atop the Blue Ridge at Shenandoah National Park. Charlottesville was just "down the mountain" from there and Schuyler, the real Walton's Mountain, a little ways from there. I visited there during May of 1985. I have a picture of Rockfish (pretty much just a railroad siding sign) and memories of seeing the Hamner home. Since then they've opened a museum. I was back in that area in 1999 but stupidly didn't take the time to go there, even though I thought about it.
A biography about Earl Hamner Jr. came out a few months back. In the beginning, he sounds just like my mother! They were born a day apart and their early lives sound SO similar -- from the standpoint they were poor but didn't know it, had a close knit family, etc. There was another book I checked out this past winter from the library. It was something like "Goodnight, John Boy".
I bought the first season of DVDs so I could share them with my ten year old daughter. She asked me about them today. Now that school is out, maybe we can watch a couple of episodes.
Glad to hear there are others who still enjoy watching it!

| Yes, I love the Waltons, too! Have all my life - the Christmas movie was called The Homecoming with Patricia Neal as the mother. Also, the movie, Spencer's Mountain from the 50's was the original story by Earl Hamner, set in the Grand Tetons of WY, starring Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara. I read the book, The Homecoming, to my kids every Christmas season - we love it!! |

I saw an advertisement for a movie that stars Richard Thomas that is on this month. It may have been on the Hallmark channel. I thought of those of you who said you really liked him and wanted to mention it.
Did anyone else see the advertisement and remember the details?
