Today I bought a huge CI tea kettle at an estate sale. It's gorgeous but needs to be heavily de-seasoned then seasoned up again. I'm super excited for the project. Not sure if I'll keep it or sell it when it's complete. Hopefully keep it.

I'm working on finding out some info on it but google is coming up with nothing. Maybe one of you ladies could help me out. On the lid it says what appears to be "l.oroece cov.ky". Does that sound familiar at all?

Also Id love any tips you have for getting out the chipped seasoning and rust from the inside especially the spout!

Thanks a million!

I've always heard to use lye to clean caked up cast iron. Here is a website that talks about several methods.

Thank you so much for the link. I'm excited to start cleaning.

I did learn that it's a water kettle which probably holds at least a half gallon. Maybe even a full gallon. The company is I. Droege & co.

i heard if you take a small piece of cotton cloth and wet it. Add a tablespoon of salt to bottom of kettle with a small amount of olive oil Rub bottom of kettle with the mixture to remove the rust. Let me know if that works. Hope you have fun with it.
