A week ago Friday during the night, our horse stepped on our sleeping Angora Goat and hurt him bad. The vet said to give him two aspirin twice a day for three days and if he didn't get back up, we needed to put him down. We waited for 5 days. DH shot him, I cried, DH skinned him and then buried him. I started my first attempt at tanning a hide. (Something I had always wanted to do!) It was a little weird at first, knowing the animal like I did. We sold his mate shortly before we put him down. So ended the Angora Goat/ Fleece Collecting era. Saturday as I was working the hide some more and DH was straightening up along the driveway, one of our neighbors struck and killed one of our Airedale dogs. It was horrible!!! Our neighbor was so upset, he called later that evening and was crying like a baby. I felt so bad for him and didn't have the heart to yell at him. He was punishing himself enough over what had happened. So we still have that Airedales mother with us and she spent two days howling like there was a full moon, because her heart is broken too. Sometimes, life takes some unexpected and very unhappy turns...don't know what it all means, but someone has a better plan that I.....

Oh Dear Debbie, I find that as I get older the harder it is for me to see my animals go through anything unpleasant. I too, would've cried like a baby if that had been my goat and my dog.
Hugs. ~Violet~

Debbie, I know it is a part of farming, but I would have a hard time too. We are now raising rabbits and my DH has butchered a couple. I have some new babies and I am very attached to them, it will be hard for me to turn them into food. I feel bad for you and your neighbor. I am so sorry for your losses.

Ugh...I am SO sorry! Your poor neighbor and your poor dog. I would have been sobbing along with him. ((((hugs))) Things have to get better.

Debbie, I am so sad for you. It is so hard to lose a pet as they are a part of your family. I am crying for you and wish you comfort. d |
