I cried over beautiful things knowing no beautiful thing lasts.

The field of cornflower yellow is a scarf at the neck of the copper sunburned woman, the mother of the year, the taker of seeds.

The northwest wind comes and the yellow is torn full of holes, new beautiful things come in the first spit of snow on the northwest wind, and the old things go, not one lasts.

Autumn Movement-by Carl Sandburg

What is your favorite Autumn or soon to be Winter poem?

This poem isn't necessarily just for Autumn, but always makes me think of Fall. It was written many years ago by my dad:

Along the road lined deep with wood
Are pine trees standing where they stood
Perhaps for years as old as I
Silently watching the time go by.

They must have witnessed many things
Of life and love and suffering
And watched the changing scenes parade
Along the dirt filled promenade.

If they could speak, I’m sure they’d say
“God gave me life so I could stay
And beautify the haunts of men
Until God takes me home again.”

For winter, it's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening," by robert frost.

Well, it's not really a poem, but I like the song "Autumn Almanac" which was written by Ray Davies, whom I once got to meet. For winter I also like "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening"

Loved the poem by Luanne's dad. I discovered this wonderful "blessing" on a card in the airport several years ago.

Thanksgiving Blessing

Wishing you walls for the wind
A roof for the rain
And tea beside the fire.

Laughter to cheer you
And those you love near you
And all that your heart may desire.
