I am a mom of 5 , now all in school looking to open a second hand clothing store in my town,offering fun funky fashionable clothes for kids teens and adults . looking to do something a little different.. anyone have any experience or good advice on getting started. would really appreciate some feed back |

I have a really good book on opening a second hand store. (If I ever lose my job, I'm gonna open one) I will look tonight and let you know the title.

Sounds like a great idea. If I lived by you I would shop there. No Ideas but best wishes to you. I think this is a great time to do something like that.

I'm going to give my $.03 (inflation adjusted) worth.
Since I travel all over the US, I'm always on the lookout for second hand stores or antiques and things of that sort. What I've noticed is what is out front first. If it's just really junk, then I don't bother. But if it looks like 'clean' junque, then I'm interested. You can find real gems in those places.
When I still had my big house, I had some driveway sales and did really well. I had thoughts of buying a small trailer and doing a second hand store in it. I had enough traffic and items to make it work. But a store down the road from me went under because they asked really high prices and it was hard to find things in it.
If you don't try, you'll never know.

Winona I scan yard sales that way too-if it looks like "undesirable junk" I go on by. But if it looks like interesting nice condition "stuff" than I can't wait to take a look. Nanny,just don;t sell anything chipped,dented,or otherwise broke. I know that sounds really obvious,but I'm always amazed at how many peeps sell badly damaged goods,used make up,hand cream,old nail polish,at yard sales. Ick!
