Beautiful quilt. What a great find. How can anyone sell something that their grandmother made? I would consider it an heirloom and display it with pride. Their loss is your gain.

That quilt is amazing. Like you,I often am amazed at how easily Grandmas stuff just gets tossed out for $5.00 or less. My Dad purchased a portrait shot of a WWII pilot from a yard sale that was the family's grandfather-big portrait photo too-nicely framed. They sold it to him for under $10.00,I believe. How crazy is that??? Once those things are gone,that's it. So sad to see how many just let go of family hierlooms like they're nothing. Congrats on the quilt....3 washings? egad!

So glad that you found the quilt and can give it proper care...good eye!
How can anyone just sell something made with such care and love by a family member like that? Wow!

Nancy, you have convinced me to move to your neighborhood! When I saw the title for your posting I couldn't get to your blog fast enough to see the condition of the quilt. I would have paid more for a CUTTER quilt, but to sell a beautiful quilt for $5.00!!!!!

I know girls, why would they want to sell it? Its big too would fir a queen size bed.

What a wonderful find! I can't believe someone would sell a family quilt. I love all of the things that my grandmothers made and collected. It's like I have a connection with those who came before me. But you get to make it your family treasure now!!

Nancy,
I bought a spool quilt many years ago from an elderly woman who told me that her aunt had hand stitched all of her quilts. Actually, I bought a full grandmother's flower garden quilt and the queen size spool quilt at this particular rummage sale-But this aunt was born in the late 1800's!
The quilts were in pristine condition-made lovingly and put away.
The spool quilt was done all in varying shades of the color purple and purple prints-Just lovely. Last spring I gave it to my eldest daughter.
It is amazing some of the treasures you can find when you are least expecting it!!

Sometimes, it is maybe a man who doesn't know how much work We put into these things.
Sometimes, maybe they have grown up around those things and just don't like them?
I heard MIL say that about needlework, like crochet and knitting.
But, I am one to want to hang on to things my Mom and her Mom made.
I never got any of my Dad's Mom needlework,
