My husband and I stood out on our back deck tonight & checked out Jupiter and its four moons. It is a beautiful, clear night here and we could see them perfectly. I used my binoculars and the moons stood out really well.
Did anyone get to see them? I hope so, it was really beautiful!

I didn't see them this time around, but have seen them with a telescope. It was so cool to really see the moons with my own eyes. Very different than pictures someone else took!

That is really neat. Is it a one night chance, or will tonight work? Michele |

I'll check with my husband to see if it is happening for just more than one night. I hope so, it was really cool!
Alee, one of the classes my husband taught back when he was in grad school was astronomy. He loves it too.

I just got an Email from my husband and he said Jupiter and its 4 moons, Io, Europa, Ganymede, & Callisto will be visible for a while now. Take a look if you get a chance. It is well worth it!

We tried to find them with the binoculars last night...we saw a few faint things that might have been moons...how far should the moons be from the actual planet, so I know if we are looking at moons or stars?

There were two moons of each side of the planet. Jupiter was very bright and larger then a star, the moons were smaller and glowed. I hope you can seem them!

Isn't it amazing what you can see with binoculars? Watching the moons go around is just amazing. It makes the planets seem more real to me somehow. Unfortunately, it's been too cloudy for much viewing here lately. I hope it will clear up next week.
