Just wondering if anyone has had experience with children accedentally eating polk berries. My grandson (age 2) ate a few this evening, I'm sick with worry. His parent called poison control who said he should be fine, but the doting grandmother (me) is still concerned. Has anyone experienced this ? I tried to research it on the internet but I all I can find is that they are poisonous and can make you very ill, but cannot find anything on specifics, I'm sure the poison control center knows what they're talking about, but I can't help but be worried.

'Poke' berries are toxic to small children but they have to eat quite a few. It's actually the leaves and stems that are even more poisonous. Make sure you educate those grandkids on poisonous plants! Though maybe you did, kids can be wily. :) Truly, he should be fine. But it's also ok to be a little worried....that's what grandma's do right? I know mine always did and that's one way I knew she cared.

My husband went around and pulled every single plant up and disposed of them. Thankfully my grandson had no ill effects whatsoever, we think he only ate three or four, he did great last night and no illness today. WHEW !! A little scary.

Oh good! I'll bet it was scary. Those berries look juicy and yummy. Glad to hear he's ok!
