I just found this tutorial about making tshirt yarn out of your old tshirts! I never considered that you could do this, but of course you can! Anyway, I'm now saving my old tees for yarn and hope to make something cool out of them.

Just thought I'd share.

I made a couple of balls of this yarn thinking I would make something but haven't had the time. I did put one ball in my gardening basket and used it tie up my plants. It seems to work really well, a little stretch and gentle on the plants. I have several shirts in the rag bag to cut up now and told my daughter not to throw away any old shirts.

I found a bunch of t shirts the other day at the thrift for .50 a piece. I need to get them cut up. And they are alot easier to do that sheets for the rag rugs. I wish there was a way to do the sheets like the t shirts. Anyway, I will be doing this.

MJF had a cute pattern for making a knitted rug using this technique, I haven't tried it yet but it looks like a great way to repurpose

no real pattern; i cut the seams and collars off of the tshirtsand take the usable portions and strip them with a 1 1/2" rotary cutter/ruler; then i take that trip and stretch it end to end as long as I can; then I take a little pair of scissors and snip a little slot in each end, and then I connect the ends like you would connect rubber bands together...pretty simple; use a 'Q' crochet hook and either work in rows or in circles; its been trial and error for me...here's a rug in progress; I'm going to use this as my new welcome mat when it's done....it's about 36" wide and I'm going to make it about 24" deep. Let me know how it works out for
you!

My aunt did this and now I have the cutest purse made out of t-shirt yarn. It's great for tossing in my phone, wallet, and keys and heading out shopping or to church.

I've been saving t-shirts for a while for just this purpose. I just have to get around to cutting them up.

This is a great site...thank you! It looks easier and not so "stringy" as the sheet rugs. I too have sen lots of inexpensive shirts not counting the ones I have that I hated to throw out! Great for recycling and I was just pricing rugs! Very expensive to buy! Can't wait to try this. She had other tutorials too that looked interesting.

I have been working on it for 4 years now...sheeesh...lol!

Love this blog link here.. thanks. And what a wonderful recycling idea!! My aunt used to make the rugs with a Q size crochet hook out of old linens/sheets... they lasted for years and were so great.
