Fall is a hard time of year for me. The house needs de-cluttered and cleaned, canning needs to be done, a craft show in November and I haven't made a thing! How do I organize? Every fall I get like this and every fall I get nothing accomplished. I feel so overwhelmed and unsettled I don't know where to start. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Barb, I don't know how to help you other than to say, if my house is cluttered (which it is at the moment), I can't seem to get anything else done. It seems to stall me somehow. Staying focused can be hard to do, but that is what works for me. I still have to de clutter, before I can accomplish other tasks. Right now I need to finish a quilt and make another project, so I have to set goals for myself, then do them in "bite size" pieces. Also list making is a big help for me. Make a list of "to dos", then as you do them cross them off, there is a major feel of accomplishment. I love to see things crossed of my list - It's like being a child and getting a star on your paper. Try setting small goals each day and try not to look at the big picture it can be overwhelming.
I understand your frustration - hope you find an answer that works for you! I'll pray for you too!
Hug, Ruth

What helps me to declutter is I pick an area in the house closet, counter, things like that then I open a box and remind myself that what I put in the box does not come out and will go to Good-will and make someone else happy. That seems to make it easier for me to part with things. It is still hard but I do feel better after I take a box or two and see how much neater the area looks.

Good luck, There is also a web-site the fly lady she has some ideas. One is to set a timer which I find is great I will set it for 15 minutes and for that 15 minutes I will clean my bathroom. I am usually done before the 15 min's is up and if not I will reset the timer for 10.

I also make a list somedays I too love to see things crossed off and if I do something not on the list I will write it on the list just to cross it off.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Barb, I am just the opposite. I have had more energy and enthusiasm the past few weeks than I have had in months. I love this time of year. And my house is a mess. Stuff everywhere. I have been doing a little each day now. Like I just did a lot of windows. I cleaned the bathroom really good and even scrubbed the floor and baseboards. I was very proud of me. I hate cleaning. I hate excercising too. But when I clean I feel like I am excercising. So just take a little thing at a time. Or a room at a time. Maybe take one room and work a week on getting it looking good and clean and take stuff to the thrift. I just love a clean fresh room.

One thing at a time. Make a list of things you want to see done. Then start a little bit at a time and then there ya go! You'll hopefully be feeling so good about one clean space you can't wait to tackle the next project. I hope you can do this. I know ya can. I do it. So you can too.

Can you post about each thing you do? That might help also. We can cheer you on! We're all good at doing that for one another.

Hugs, Kris

I make lists in black ink only. Then I get to mark it off with a pretty purple or red crayon. I love seein the pretty colors on my sheet and the more that gets done the prettier it gets.

Thanks girls for all your ideas. I have made a list and stuck it on the fridge. Today I picked 20 pounds of beets and cooked them. Tomorrow after work I hope to pickle at least 7 pints and continue to do this each day. Unfortunately I have another 60 pounds still in the ground. Beets anyone? I think maybe if I post progress reports it might help me stay on track. Thanks for the prayers.

Meggy- One thing that keeps me motivated is I write down on a list (usually here on the forum) everything I have DONE that day. It really helps me to see that I get more done than I think- and then I try to get more done so I can add more to the list! LOL

Alee, thanks for the tip. I work in town, leave the house at 5 am and get home at 4 pm. I did get 7 pints of beets pickled tonight, another batch cooked for canning tomorrow, and more pulled to cook tomorrow. Not a lot, but by the time I get home, do this and fix supper, it's almost bedtime and I will start agian. My goal is to get all the beets canned by Friday. Wish me luck.

Barb- Good luck- you can do it! One step at a time, one day at a time. Just that fact that you have a goal/date set for what you want to accomplish is a step in the right direction.

Thanks for the support. I canned another 7 pints tonight, washed more jars, and cooked enough beets for canning tomorrow. Only 2 more rows left. I told my husband if he plants that many beets again next year, he'll have to eat them all raw. My house ,of course, is a disaster, but like you said, one step at a time...

Thank you for all your prayers and suggestions. I did get 30 pints of beets pickled and 20 bags cooked and frozen this week. No more beets. I am off today so I cleaned out the chest of drawers, cleaned the bathrooms, did laundry and made chocolate chip cookies. You are right. If I do one thing at a time instead of focusing on everything at once it goes much better. Continuing down my list.....

Barb, good for you! Doesn't it feel good to do that one thing? Then you feel like doing one more thing. Pretty soon you've got your house all cleaned up. Keep it up! You'll get there.

I actually cleaned out a big ole basket that's been under a table in here that was full of grandkids school papers. I got them all together in bags for them. And I vacuumed out my window seat storage in the dining room too. This really is motivating me to get up and do something every day. So thanks!
