I am feeling full of love of the season right now. I am looking out the window at trees that are putting on their golden coats for falls breezes and the sunlight is streaming down. The wind is playing in the leaves and chasing away summer's heat. I love it.
So in honor of the season I thought a couple Autumn poems would be in order. Feel free to post your favorites too!
Autumn Movement by Carl Sandburg I CRIED over beautiful things knowing no beautiful thing lasts.
The field of cornflower yellow is a scarf at the neck of the copper sunburned woman, the mother of the year, the taker of seeds.
The northwest wind comes and the yellow is torn full of holes, new beautiful things come in the first spit of snow on the northwest wind, and the old things go, not one lasts.

Oh I love Carl Sandburg. He does some great poems. I know here in Nebraska it is getting cooler and the fields are changing and harvest will be here soon. Love this time of year. Beautiful sunset on my walk this evening.

The sunrises have been very pretty coming to work in the morning. As golden as the Autumn leaves. The morning air is crisp and alive.

September
A road like brown ribbon A sky that is blue A forest of green With that sky peeping through. Asters, deep purple, A grasshopper's call, Today it is summer, Tomorrow is fall.
I memorized this in second grade and still love it. Our teacher had a Friday afternoon poetry time every week. We got a copy of a page with several poems and later in the year got to fingerpaint a cover. Then each week we'd go back to favories as well. Wow, that is 55 years ago!!
Thanks for bringing back a lovely memory! Susan
