hi..have spent many years on different farms..

just stopping by this particular place to say hi..

farmgirls rock

ok..now to get on to serious matters..am posting asking for some help with baking.

unfortunately, 'good and constant results' in baking is not one of the particular farm skills which i possess in great measure.. i really do not know much about the principles of good baking.. i suppose it is scientific like any other endeavour.. and Love holds it all together.
need help.
also have some ideas to share in magazine.
see you at forum

Welcome to the forum Alice! I read your post on hermits and I am sure that they will be able to help you at the farm. I don't really like hermits. My grandmother used to make them and freeze them for later use- along with cakes and cookies. Well, you can only freeze something for so long without it totally drying out. We came to refer to Gram's cakes as "sand cakes" and the hermits were just inedible. At least on the big holidays she would bake fresh.
I think you will love it here. It's a great place to learn a bit on just about anything!!

KARIN.. that is so funny...

poor Gramma..

i understand..

it is nice to be organised and have things tucked away for a rainy day..but..alas..when that day comes around my freezer, the chances are good that all i will find is sandy bars also.

he he

well.. thanks for the welcome and the chuckle..

Welcome Alice ( I have a beautiful cat with your name!)
How fun to have you here! I am sort of a fly by the seat of my pants baker..but love to bake. I am finally (after nearly 4 years) getting used to the high altitude difference between here and where I lived before (at sea level) I had some real disasters for awhile there!
I have learned that if baked goods go in my freezer they never come out edible so I don't freeze extras..I send them to the neighbors.
Anyway...I am glad you found us Alice..welcome to the group!

Hi Alice,
Very happy you found us. Sadly, I don't have any experience baking Hermit Cookies, but if you ever need a great recipe for lemon squares, let me know!
My grandma always has "sandy" cookies in her freezer (leftover shortbread from Christmas, yuck!)
Enjoy your time on the farm with us!
