Hello everyone! I thought since we have topics about fiber goats, dairy goats, cows, etc. Why not have a topic about dogs and cats?! This can be a fun place where we can share about them. Same as the other topics but we just talk about dogs and cats. Make since? I am blessed with 1 beautiful australian sheapherd dog named Ginger. She is 12 years old and is doing very well for her age. I also have one beautiful cat named Kelby who is 2 years old. She is our barn cat and is black and white. we got her from our local animal shelter a few months ago and so far she loves our home. I also work at the animal shelter as a volunteer so I see alot of cats and dogs. Well I think that does it for a start. Hugs, Channah

I have 2 cats. Miss Kitty who is black 7 white was given to us by a friend who could no longer keep her! She had 1 baby last year & we named her Angel(gray tiger striped & calico) & she had 1 baby (gray tiger striped) this year but now Angel is missing! :( The baby is still alive but unamed as of yet-I have been just calling her Baby. Can't catch her yet but hope to soon!

I have an aussie, Dash, who is 11 yo, 3 bulldogs, Luna, Ricky and Sparkle, and one parakeet named Gus. That's more than enough for now, although I do miss having a cat. Our last one died at 15 a couple of years ago.

Channah, how is Ginger, she was so sick a fews weeks back, having seizures.
I have 5 dogs, "Ifa" who is a Queensland heeler/pit mix 15 yrs old, "Jerico" who is a hybrid Wolfdog (high content)7 yrs old, "Pebbles" who is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier 6 yrs old, "Ruby" who is a Carin Terrier 3 yrs old, and last but least "Pickles" who is a Rat terrier 2 yrs old. I have 4 house cats, "YoYo" who is 17 yrs old, "Whisper" who is 15 yrs old, "Andy" who is 13 yrs old, and "Lil Bit" who is about 6 months old. Then there is a whole bunch of barn cats, around 40 to date I think, as they show up, I trap them, spay/neuter and vaccinate them, and turn them back loose at the barns. Just don't have the heart to euthanize them, or take them to the pound, so they live out their days here, doing what cats do...

We are owned by 2 yellow lab brothers Luke and Clay six and a half years old. Last October we found out Clay had cancer on his tongue, his tongue was removed back to where it is attached to the lower palate. Luckily he is highly motivated by food (most labs are) are he quickly relearned how to eat and drink and is now healthy happy and once again in charge of the house and us. Kathy |

I have 4 furbabies! Two inside dogs and two inside cats. I have one 11 year old cat named Blanco who was found at a stadium abandoned, one 7 year old black cat named Lady who was bought by one of the maintenance people i work with and then he wasn't going to keep it. My oldest dog is Sally, she is 5 years old and they did not expect her to live 3 months let alone 4 years after we got her from the humane society. After we picked her out, she developed kennel cough and distemper. We saved her anyway and the vet took care of her until she was better. The last one is a very small rat terrier dog with long hair who was mistreated at the place he was born so my sister rescued him and named him baby boy. however the beagle she had did not like him and her husband said that she had to get rid of him so we adopted him. and i have never regretted it. My husband before he died, really loved the little fellow and the little fellow is such a sweetie! he lets sally bully him and the cats ignor them. janiee farmgirl #390 |

I have two furry cat children inside the house: Zoe who is 19 years young, and Gracie who is 5. Zoe is an old lady and does not like Gracie the fluffy cat around her at all. Luck Dog is an inside dog. He just turned 18 years young. He can hardly hear or see, but he loves to eat. Months ago Luck Dog was very, very ill. One of the Farmgirls helped me get him back to good health. She guided me in the right direction and her advice was just what the vet told me. And- I have four outside cats; Nadia, Moon, Pepper, and Audrey. When visitors come to the house and see the outside cats, they all ask when are the kittens due. LOL. I say the cats are all spayed and neutered. My cats eat very good, and all the time. LOL Marly

Good dog rescue story....My SILs sister is a dog NUT and has money to burn, she volunteers at her local shelter and has often adopted the unadoptable. In comes a young dog that has been abused and has very bad teeth due to neglect and being kicked, the dog is considered not adoptable because it can't eat. She adopts the dog, hand feeds it baby foor until she finds a canine dentist 200 miles away and has, get this, gold crowns put on this dogs teeth, a full mouth of them. Happy ending the dog has fit in nicely with the rest of the crew at her house and is doing very well. Kathy |

That is awesome, Kathy!! I am so glad that there are people like her. I went to the shelter this morning and they were really busy with people calling about bring in cats but they have no room whats so ever and are going to have to put a bunch down. It made me get all teary. This one lady just let her cats go wild and now she has tons of them that she is bringing in to be put to sleep. It gives me hope that there are people out there like your SIL. Hugs, Channah

We have 3 inside rescue cats. Max is a wonderful Himalayan we got at the shelter when he was 1 year. Owners "tired" of him and daughter lost interest in showing him, so bye-bye Max! Max is now 15 and he looks as good as he did the day we brought him home 14 years ago!! He's a wonderful wonderful boy!! His companion died of old age 3 years ago, and Max was so depressed I felt we were going to lose him too. Divine Intervention Alert.....a friend found 11 5 week old kittens some very awful person dumped on a country road. She found loving homes for all of them...we took two sisters and they were the Angels that Max needed! The kittens are now 3 and Max absolutely adores them and they love him! Wow....! Love the animals, but so sad that many suffer at the hands of humans.

Channah, this is a neat idea. I am so glad Ginger is better.
I have 2 Rat Terrier sister that just turned 13 July 7. Zoe is really hard of hearing now. It so sad. But I scare her all the time. She was out in the chicken house just not snoozing away. I went to get her to come inside because it's going to storm but I guess she can't hear it. And she's still out there making her way to the house but has to stop to pee and poop every few steps. She's getting old and feeble.
Her sister is Sophie and she is in much better shape. She is a little hard of hearing but not near as bad as Zoe. And moves alot faster too.
Then there is Bubba. He's a yellow lab mix. He's 3 1/2. He has been going on walks with me the last few days. He's spoiled. Hates this hot weather. He wants to be inside in the AC. He's a mess.
I have 6 cats. Gilbert, Cosmo, Sybil, and Soshe are all girls, Then Andy Oakley and Alex are the boys. They are all outside cats.

I have one dog named Molly. She is a Corgi/Australian Shepherd mix. I rescued her from the Humane Society when she was 6 months old. She is my constant companion and my walking buddy. My DD has 4 rescue dogs, all with health or social issues. She is a vet tech in SC. I bake all natural dog treats and give 5% of my profits to Friends of Noah Rescue that I belong to. It is an all-breed animal rescue group in Southern Wisconsin. We have placed over 50 pets in the last 6 months.

Photo of Molly McGee.

She looks like a big dog in this picture, but she is part Corgi and has somewhat short little leggies. I need her to teach me how to put eyeliner on!

Wow! This is really fun. I love seeing pictures too. I keep saying it but I REALLY will try to get my daughter to help me learn how to add pictures. Australian Shepherds and crosses are really popular here, the way it looks. We have two Aussies, Bonnie Bad-enuff and Cindy Lou Whoo ( Yep, name is from the Grinch.) They are red merles, a bit over a year and a half. After our old Jake, that is the breed of choice around here. He was amazing and huge, 88 lbs, for an Aussie. But anyway Cindy and Bonnie are truely active loving pets. Bonnie is about 45 lbs and the hugger. She will climb on my lap, and lean against me and just about tip the computer chair over. Cindy is more petite and delicate looking, at 36 lbs. She is truely Momma's dog, with me anytime she and her sister aren't running or wrestling. We have two cats, both started out as indoor pets, but they are great garden hunters and only come in when its raining or they want a "quick food snack". Thor was from the humane society and about a month later, DH found tiny Freya wandering alone before she even know how to drink from a dish and brought her home. They are about 2 years old. Thor is a semi-long hair white with golden orange spots. His winter tail is a gorgeous fluffy white plume, but in the summer we can't keep up with burs so its a mess. Freya is a pretty black and white stipe with a white blaze on her face and white feet, very flashy lookint. I hope to hear about more companions here! Susan

Hi Girls, I thought I would share this story with you that happened yesterday.
This morning my dad was working out in the woods and was going through his truck and out of the bushes pops out this half starving little kitten. We think someone drove all the way out there and dumped it off to try and get rid of it. My dad brought it home very early this morning at our house. Poor thing. It is so young ( maybe 2 weeks old at the most) and was very hungry and thristy ( I'm guessing it was out there a long time. She is very people friendly so I don't think she just wondered off. After we feed her we took her into the animal shelter where I work. Next week she will be up for adoption. I am praying so hard that she will go to a really, really good home. One that will love her and give her all the care that she needs. But the really cool thing is that I am working there so I can see her everyweek and take care of her. Isn't that cool?!?
Hugs, Channah

Channah, that's good ya'll found it and it will have a chance at a good home soon. I love little kittens but something about them makes my eyes itch and I sneeze like crazy. But not the adult cats. Strange. And that is so neat that you are still working at the shelter. I bet you have been a good helper there. I loved when I worked there. Even though I cried every single day for all those poor animals. I can't even go there now without crying. It's so sad to see all those abandoned animals. Very sad. If spaying and neutering weren't so darn expensive more people could afford to get their animals fixed and we wouldn't have this problem.
Diane, your dog is so beautiful. I love her eyes.

diane, your dog is beautiful! I have two inside cats, blanco age 11 years, lady age 7 years and two inside dogs, sally age 5 years and baby boy age 1 year and 2 months. All were rescued loves. Larry was not too sure about the last one, baby boy but he grew to love him very much. I don't regret having him at all, when Larry died, baby boy is the one who jumps in my lap the most and kisses me when i am crying. He is so precious and Sally was given 3 months to live when we took her from the pound and has now made 4 years with us. Blanco was found as a kitten at a stadium by one of the grounds people and brought to where i worked. Larry came to visit me that day and when my boss asked him if he wanted that cat, he grabbed her up, threw her in the car and left without seeing me! :) and lady was bought by another maintenance man and his cat did not like her so he gave her to me instead of the pound. channah, i am so glad that you like your work! Love hearing from you again! janiee farmgirl #390 |

I just love learning about all your furry children. These are our furry farm children, LOL!
Molly is just beautifu. Hugs and kisses to her.
I have an almost 10 yo Beagle named Jackie. She is the sweetest most loving furry kid. She is by my side or within a short distance of me all the times. She is having issues with her site but has adjusted well so far.
We raise Beagles and my husband runs them in field trials. We have 12 outside now. Our 2 GSs each have their own dogs. The GSs are 8 and almost 7. They participate in the handling of their dogs. They belong to the local Adult Beagle club as junior members. They are taught how to handle and care for the dogs and how to respect them. They love to watch their dogs run in the trials. They have learned how to handle the other members dogs, how to measure them for their classes they will run in and how to accept a win and graciously accept a loss. There's an old saying here that goes like this, "Keep a kid hunting and when they are older you won't have to hunt the kid." The club is AKC sanctioned and the rules are strictly enforced. Too bad most kids and their parents don't get involved with anything like this. It so helps to build the kids self esteem, respect, kindness, compassion and dedication to their pets. Lessons learned are usually useful in years to come.
We have 5 barn cats...Socksie,Foxy,Smokey,Bandit and Cali. They love to rip and tear through my flowerbeds. Some days I think it's cute and other days their for sale. LOL!
We don't breed our Beagles to sell. If we breed it's to get new puppies for trialing. Occasionally we will select a family to get a pup if it won't trial. Hand select!
I would rather be with my dog than with some people I know, Except for my farmgirls! LOL!
Blessings and HUGS, Darlene Sister 1922

Molly is a beautiful dog!
I have 4 cats. My daughter says 3 of them are hers :) There's Suzie, George, Ruby and Stella. We just got Stella last March when she was sadly dropped off in her cat carrier in my driveway...some people are just cruel. My daughter wants a dog too, but I'm not sure if we can handle a dog around my house yet :0

I have three cats, all rescued as strays. Amber is an orange and white female about to turn 18 years old. Jake is an orange male, 10 years old and my youngest daughter's best buddy. Midnight is all black, of course, and is 7 years old He is very vocal and likes to sing in the wee hours of the morning. I also have a year old daschund/jack russell gal named Penny. I was told she was pure bred daschund but there is a bit of jack russell or maybe beagle in there. We just recently trained her to sleep in her doggie bed next to our bed so she could get out of the crate at night. she is so cute sleeping in her bed !
