Me, I'm reading...
1. Girl in a Box - Sujata Massey: A mystery about a Japanese American who goes undercover in a Japanese store. This is a series and I have enjoyed most of them.
2. Emile - Rousseau: #24/1001 Books to read before you die

Just finished Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.

Still trying to finish The Secret Life of Bees, and need to get more into Mama Makes up her mind. Also started another library book, Generation Dead. It's a teen read about how these dead teenagers are coming back to life as zombies, and it's kind of chicklit, too.

Diana Gabaldon wrote a series of books Outlander novels. So far, I have read Outlander, Dragonfly In Amber, Voyager, The Fiery Cross, Drums of Autumn, A Breath of Snow And Ashes. Now, I am reading An Echo In The Bone. They are historical fiction. The reason I picked these for the summer is that I like to read about the use of herbs. These stories take place in the 1700s. So, herbs were a very important part of everyday life.

I am reading Letters from the Hive (about beekeeping) and listening to New York (30 CDs!) by Edward Rutherford. Just finished Same Kind of Different Like Me for a local book club, but it was sappy. Dianne

What do you think about Eat, Pray, Love? I've been considering reading it - is it fast paced, interesting?
Dianne, have you read Edward Rutherford's Ireland saga? (Can't remember the title -but it was a good read.)
I'm reading Little Heathens by Mildred Armstrong Kalish her narrative about growing up in Iowa during the Depression. This book is like she is sitting on the porch in a rocking chair and recounting what they did to survive. She explains in detail the home remedies used because they couldn't afford a doctor, their chores, entertainment, how they baked on old wood stoves, farmed, got water from the windmill, did laundry, you name it. I've never read anything that explained survival off the grid so well. It is like an entertaining handbook.
For my 1001 Books to Read Before You Die reading group, I'm reading Veronika Decides to Die by Paolo Coelho. He has an interesting writing style including himself in the book even though it is fiction.

Loved Little Heathens. More good books in the same vein are: Growing Up Countr by Carol Bodensteiner, Nothing to Do but Stay by Carrie Young, Heart is Where the Home Is by Ruth Murphy.
I am reading A Blessing of Bread, this is a lovely book about Jewish bread and its role and origins in their life and traditions, its so good I'm going to buy a copy for myself.

Judy,
I have been enjoying Eat, Pray, and Love. It is fast paced to me. I don't know if that helps or not lol. I have learned much about Italy as I almost through that part of the book. I wanted to read the book before I went to the movie. So far I like it.

| Jenny - Have you read the sequel to Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth? It's World Without End. I haven't read it yet but it's on my shelf. Several people have told me it's just as good as Pillars. |

Yesterday I received a book called "SARAH's KEY. It was given to me for my birthday. It is about the WWII in France, about more than 12.000 Jews who were hounded to the Veledrome in Paris and what they had to endure. I started reading in bed (after everyone left I couldn't sleep) and it is a wonderful, thought provoking book. I never heard about this before , and I did read a LOT of books about WWII

Astrid And Veronika, by Linda Olssen. I really like this book so far! A very quiet, calm read, yet still suspensful to some degree. It makes me feel cozy, but it isn't mushy!
It's about the friendship between two women, a young writer named Veronika and an elderly woman named Astrid. Veronika moves to sweden (from new zealand) to write, and befriends her neighbor, Astrid.
Astrid is full of charm and old stories that melt your heart. I wish she were real!

I really liked "eat love prey" as well;) And the secret life of bees! I've just finished that one. I found Eat love Prey to be a bit fast paced, but nothing crazy. Sort of along the same lines as "under the tuscan sun". I just love both!

I am finishing Dragonfly in Amber, the second book in the Outlander series. I love these books! I bet a lot of farmgirls would do just fine in the Scottish highlands 250 years ago LOL

Yes I know! A lot of my family is in Nebraska(pretty close to red cloud, actually). My mom was born in raised there as well (lived outside a tiny little town, Milligan). I guess they moved around a lot though, my grandpa was a depot agent.
We were actually just there visiting and had a loooong discussion about Willa Cather. I figured it was about time that I read her books!
So funny. half way through our conversation, my aunt leaned over and whispered, "did you know that she was a 'morphodite' "? I had no idea what on earth she was talking about, so she explained a little further... I told her, "i think you mean Hermaphrodite"
