Has anyone read the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins? I am completely absorbed. They are easy reading- aimed for teenagers I think.

They deal with a post WW3ish World where North America is now called "Panem" and is divided up into 12 slave like colonies to support "Capitol".

I wasn't sure about the concept when my sister told me about them- but I must say- they are brilliant.

My 12 yo DD is HOOKED on Hunger Games. She's waiting for the 3rd book to be released - soon!

She keeps telling me I should read them. Did you know they're in the process of making it into a movie? Dd already has in mind who she'd like to see play the characters in the book.

Deb- The books are really well written. I recommend them highly. They have a great commentary on our society in them. The next book comes out on August 24th. I don't know what I think about them making it into a movie...I think it will be hard to pull of, but amazing if they can!

Alee, I have wanted to read these, but for the past few months at our library they've been out, and then they have a bunch of wait lists for all of them! I have heard good things, though.

LOve that series..have the third book pre paid and ordered from amazon..my kids all loved it too. Awesome series! Not at all my usual sort of read but I sure was hooked!
I agree with you Alee..hard to imagine a movie..but you never know. I always love books better than the movies made from them anyway.

I loved, loved, loved this book! The second one - Catching Fire was just as good and my daughter and I are counting down the days until Mockingjay comes out. I can't think of a better female role-model for my daughters or me than Katniss!

I finally started Hunger Games- and I can't put it down! I'm about 1/2 through it. I just picked up Mockingjay for my dd last night (it was 20% off and I paired it with a 33% off coupon at Borders). I wonder if she got any sleep last night? A local bookstore is holding a discussion group Saturday night that dd wants to go to.

I hadn't heard of the series until this week. I typically try to avoid hyped up books like this, but the everyone seems to rave about them. I'm going to stop by the library tomorrow to pick up the first book.

she's loving it! What makes it really cool, is that she started Jr. High this week and her Language Arts teacher is reading it as well! She's adjusting to Jr. High great - but this just makes it a little bit better.

I do too, but since my dd was encouraging me to read it I figured why not. We both avoided Twilight. Just not interested.

I'm on the waiting list at the library for the first book. It's on our high school's summer reading list, so the waiting list is quite long!

I read the Twilight series because my students (college) kept talking about it. I can see the appeal somewhat, but the writing is just horrible (IMO).

My dd is going to a discussion group tonight to review Mockingjay. I'm going to steer clear of the group so I don't hear any spoilers! I'll sit in the coffee shop.

I'm waiting for Catching Fire to come in to the library for me. It has a huge waiting list.

I don't blame you, you need to be up to date with the popular books anytime you're a teacher. IMO.

I've read the first two books in the series and see that the third is out now (The Mockingjay). It's certainly a good series and makes one think about the human species and what we are capable of (good and bad).

Anne Marie- I just finished MockingJay this weekend. It was a very good book. It was a bit harder to read in the sense that she was dealing more with the mental fallout of what she had been through. Very well written and thought provoking. It's a good warning message too- to be involved in our lives.
