I was reflecting on what I've accomplished in my short 47 years on this earth. Pretty amazing stuff I've done. It helps me to meditate on the good times and things I've done in life, since now my traveling days are over.
Have you ever gone on a long road trip with just your kids and you were the only driver? I've done it several times in my life. Before, I was married I would go on trips from FL to MD with my Mom and one time with my brother and a friend of his to MD. But, somehow after I was married I became brave, I'd like to think. Some might say crazy or daring, but I say "brave." The first time my daughter was 3 1/2 and I needed a vacation desperately and my DH couldn't get off work. So, off I went to GA and then MD. That is 1680 miles one way. Later, my DH flew up and drove back with us. The second trip was with DD and me to upstate NY when she was 4 1/2. On the trip back I stopped by my friends in MD again and stayed a few days and then drove home just the two of us. This is 2400 miles one way. After, those two I could not handle the long hours on the road so I made my DH take time off from work and go with us. He loved it, after the first vacation he was hooked and we had many happy times together. So how far have you driven by yourself or just with the kids?

Years ago we used to go on raod trips all the time. There are 2 memorable trips when it was jsut me and the kids. The first was when we went to Atlanta and stayed in a motel for 3 days. We went to a Brave's game and to the zoo and botanical gardens. Lots of malls too. It was so fun. Then my cousin in Boston was getting married. Me and the kids went up there on very little money. My aunt and uncle paid for the B&B we stayed in while there. We went to several really neat places on the way like the place where the pilgrims landed (can't think of the name right now) and so many other places. I am having a brain freeze at the moment. But we had a great time. The last night I was almost out of money and we had to sleep in a rest area.

Kristin...Plymouth Rock? I love road trips! I have driven to SC all by myself about 3 times now. It is over 900 miles one way. I used to just hop in the car and find a country road and see where it took me. My DH isn't this sort, he needs to get to the destination as fast and short as he can. I love to meander and explore. I have a couple of friends and my daughter that like to do this so I go with them and not my DH.

I've done some road trips with my grandson, who will be 16 next month (August). The first trip we did was when he was 9 and we did the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Zion National Park, and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We both enjoyed ourselves. At the North Rim, we had a rim cabin (one of four) and we also had a cabin at Zion National Park. We've also gone to Durango, Colorado and taken the Durango-Silverton train and came back through the Four Corners area. Two years ago we went to Chama, New Mexico, and took the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, which went into southern Colorado. We went on to Carlsbad Caverns in southeastern New Mexico; on the way, we spent the night in Roswell, New Mexico. We've enjoyed ourselves.

When the cold weather gets to Florida this year I'm going to just explore around Florida on trips where we can make it back home in time for me to get in my own bed. Bringing the ice chest full of food and all my meds and lots of water a pillow and quilt to lay out on in some state parks we've never been to. There are lots of springs in FL that have caves and rivers we can canoe down. I'll be in the middle taking in all the scenery while DH and DD do all the paddeling. I'll take lots of pictures and share them with you.

When my daughter was a week old we drove from Minnesota to North Carolina. A month later we had to drive from North Carolina to Texas. My baby had done nearly 4000 miles in her first month of life! Since then we try to only take trips that are about a day. When my husband and I were first married we would drive to see my family, which was about 1200 miles. I sometimes miss those long days in the car, all to ourselves.

4 years ago my husband and I took a month and drove from Ma to the Dakotas stopping just about every state on way, visited my 101 year old aunt in Indiana who I had not seen since for 50 yrs. We have also driven to Arizona gone Rt 66 thru desert to California. He is talking about doing this again. I wounder if it will be as impressive as it was the first time. Maybe taking another route trip. I just ride he likes to drive which is ok with me.
