So, what badge did you earn first?
I haven't earned any yet. I just became an official member yesterday and can't wait to get started. And I know me, I will want to work on them all at the same time. |

I earned the one for raising chickens! I wanted them so badly and the badge was the excuse that pushed me over the line to get some.

Apron badge !! was like natesgirl was the excuse to push me along. I couldnt wait to get back to my apron wearing days. I grew up wearing aprons that is what we did...was raised a farmgirl. I LOVE my aprons. I am now making them to coordinate with some of my outfits. I love bloomer pants I call them and so now make a apron to go with each one. My husband thinks they look...well goofy....Do I get offended? NO..he is a city boy and I AM A CERTIFIED FARMGIRL and love to wear my apron! giggle at me if you want (SMILE) I wear my apron away from home. I dont carry a purse and my pockets are wonderful !!! I get quite a few compliments. When I became a farmgirl sister I couldnt wait to get to the fabric store and get on that first apron!! then worked on the horse dreams, and couple others. Now I am rolling along about to apply for more badges. This is a lot of fun I am actually grateful for the merit badges it has helped me get ME back again. I feel like me again after being shoved aside so long after moving to the city and life just takes you in opposite directions. Working on the badges helps to re-establish my foundations again.

Great question! Let's see! To begin with I applied for some badges that fit some of the things I had already accomplished before becoming a sister...
We already had chickens and the calender on the application allows for some time to pass between start and finish dates!
Back Yard Farmer, keeping a small flock of chickens, Garden Gate Horse Dreams beg and intermediate, Be Good To Mother earth, beginner/intermediate and Outpost: Disconnect to Re- Connect...beginner...
I'm working on Horse Dreams Expert level now... I just contacted our local Horse Rescue today and I plan to visit them tomorrow to see how my daughter and I can help! :) Now, about the Apron! Seems as if many farmgirls start with that one! I remember the one I made in my middle school sewing class for my mom like it was yesterday. It couldn't have shouted " farmgirl" more loudly... I chose a small red and white gingham check and a pretty white lace for the trim and I made a square pot holder to match complete with lace trim around the edges. I think she still has it... That was a few decades ago at this point!
I think this time around I'll look for something a little more me.. Some cheetah spots mixed with a check and a tiny floral might be fun with a splash of red and maybe some feather trim, or beads for decorations... Sounds like a fall project to me!
Have fun earning merit badges!!! I think the sisterhood is just the best!!!

I've just submitted my info for two badges that i've been working on. (I just *officially* signed up as a sister a couple of days ago, but I started working on them before that.) I did the heirlooms gardening one, and the secret life of bees:) I haven't actually gotten them yet, but fingers are crossed! I think next i'll do crochet...or tatting!!

Haha, Kangarookate, you and your husband sound like me and my mr. I too do have all sorts of quirky farm girl tendencies that throw my husband for a loop. Like wearing my apron out of the house...you're right! Perfect pockets;) Oh, and he was a little floored when I pulled out my dinner bell and hung it on the back porch...and made a little "out house" for our boys out back. He's a city slicker.

corabelle I got a giggle from your reply. Yeah you can peg the city people from the country ones real fast!! ha ha I take pride at times of my individuality. (smile) BUT I can get away with it so easily also with the profession I am in too. (smile) I say.... farmgirls RULE !! (smile)
One thing that i know gets to my husband also is my pretty mud boots when I wear them to walmart or tractor supply etc...that is why I have.. ""pretty ones"" to dress up my work clothes!! duh....ha ha I go from doing chores to needing to run to the store and back to doing chores My farmgirl wardrobe sometimes may not be New York Runway fashion but Pasture runway fashions and I like it !! (smile)

OH yes. Pretty boots are a MUST. Mine are brown with pink and blue polka dots:) haha, thank goodness that i'm self employed, my work attire is totally up to me. I usually end up wearing flip flops or rain boots with jeans or a skirt, a button down cotton shirt or a tank top, and an apron. haha

I used to have some real pretty blue boots with flowers but they got messed up. and now have green ones with garden stuff on them just lovem !! go great with my overalls !! I roll up the legs to show off my pretty boots.. ha ha ha
I have a BIG brimmed hat I love to wear need to keep this intense sun off my face.. everywhere I go someone says.... doing some gardening are we? ha ha ha guess it sort of looks like a gardening type of hat. that goes good with my overalls too. (smile)
I either wear my overalls or my bloomer pants.. love those for summer!
We need photos of how we all dress across the country!! that would be fun I think Teresa kangaroo kate

That would be fun!! What are bloomer pants? Like pedal pushers? I have one brimmed hat that I love (I can't pull off too many different hats..) but I got a pattern by Amy butler for a hat that worked out really well. I also like the "outback" styled hats. (where you can tack the sides up, or un-snap them and leave them down..)

Corrabelle bloomer pants.. that is what I call them. ha are sort of like bloomers but made out of pretty fabrics.. instead of just white bloomers to wear under a dress etc.. I have one pair I love the pant is out of a pretty pink flower fabric and made the white ruffle on end from trim off some curtains !! like a wide iolet. I hunt yard sales for things that may make nice trims to things. works great !! and so economical!! and recycling usable items to something new. I love to have a apron that coordinates with my pants.. that is one of my favorite things to wear for summer. I am thinking of making some to put on my website for sale. I get so many women comment on how they like them. and they go so good with my boots I wear all the time. I love the ariat fatbaby boots. end of the ruffle comes to the top of my boot. I need to get a photo on here of a couple of them.

Kate, I'd love to see a picture! I've seen old fashioned bloomers before, but not on their own.hehe. Just always worn under a dress (or on my grandma, when she swam in her pond! -mind you, if no one was around, she'd wear nothin' at all!)

Me Too!! I can't wait to get it and start embroidering my badge;) haha, Kate, Teresa, I think maybe your Grandma was just more of a Lady than mine was. (mine was raised with a lot of boys! She was an only child, but had a lot of boy cousins.) Her mother though..she was probably a little more refined.lol
