And I'm dreading it. Sassy is 12,and her arthritis has advanced to the point where her quality of life isn't good-the pain "grabs" has like a siezure and she starts frantically biting at it-if she loses balance on a chair she rolls right off without trying to break her fall, still nibbling when she hits the floor. I can't afford the battery of tests they do,and I figure the only thing I can do is take her in to be put to sleep. Any prayers & thoughts of strength & peace for both of us would be gratefully appreciated. I've been giving her feline glucosamine for awhile now,but it doesn't prevent these spells that she has. She spends most of her time on the floor, and seems depressed. ZHer appetite is decreasing, & she certainly hasn't been active like she used to be. This has all rapidly advanced in the last few weeks, and I figure she's been thru enough.

Oh Sherrie,

I am SO SORRY! I know what you are going through. A couple of years ago we had to put our 15 year old Aussie to sleep.
I am praying for comfort, peace and strength for you both. It does ease up a little with time.( We don't have any children so our dog was like a child to us.) Know that you are in my prayers.

I'll keep yyou in my thoughts and prayers. It was so hard to have my 22 year old cat put to sleep, and it gave me comfort to know she had a good life, and like your cat had started to suffer. I'll be thinking of you, Carol

I'm so sorry, but I'm glad you are taking your sweet pet to the vet, and if you have to, doing the right thing. Know that we all send you hugs and prayers...

Thank you ladies! No,it isn't-hardest part is Sassy doesn't act ill except for her mobility and lack of wandering around. I've done this before, but it never gets easier. I never could have children,so the cats are my "kids" so to speak. Lightning (her sister) will still be with me but I do worry about how she'll handle being the "one & only" for the first time. I'll probably adopt another cat down the road, but don't want to rush anything & make sure Lightning is ready to have another companion.

I am sorry you have to deal with this, I had to put my dog to sleep a few years ago and it was hard but I was allowed to stay with him while the doctor gave him his shot, he just relaxed in my arms and was gone. It was a very hard thing to do but I feel like it was the best way to do it. (((HUG)))

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Yeah,I keep hoping the vet will find perhaps I'm jumping the gun. It's a shame that $$$ dictates a persons ability to provide treatment for a pet. What makes it so hard is to look at her,her eyes are lively, she responds readily when I pet her,she walks & trots well, but she hasn't jumped up on anything since she had her last roll off of Dads chair. She is eating, but not as much. She's been spending a ton of time lying on a towel in the bathroom, which she's never done before. Perhaps she's doing this to stay cool,I don't know. Lightning came in last night sensing my upset and loved on me for a long time, lying on my pillow above my head for awhile when I was trying to get to sleep. Some of my coworkers and supervisors have been pretty cold about it the flip out the "well she's old! When it's time to go,it's time to go!" (and that came from a cat owner) Since when did a pets age make it easier to let go of them? You girls have been wonderful and the prayers have helped. Been dealing with it much better today.

I'm sorry Sherrie, people can be so cold and hard hearted.

You are still in my prayers and I was also wondering if maybe the vet could prescribe pain medication for Sassy? Our dog was on Rimadyl and that helped him so much. He had degenerative bone disease in his shoulders and hip dysplasia.

I'm wondering about meds too-perhaps a cortisone shot? She's much improved and has returned to jumping up on things. Your prayers & thoughts have helped us both. Seeking more of an alternative treatment as opposed to the heavy decision. I will let you ladies know what happens.

UPDATE: Sassy is back home and with us all! Vet is thinking it's fleas-she does have an allergic reaction to them on her skin and so she got a steroid shot, worm pill, and advantage for fleas. I'll be taking her back in a month or so for a "senior checkup".
I want to thank all you girls for bein so dog-gone wonderful. Really felt peaceful today going to the vet.

I never knew a cat could have such extreme reactions to fleas! Treated Lightning for fleas as well-more of the critters than I had first thought. Thanks again for your warm hearts & open ears.
