Just to let you all know that your strength has been such a help to me and that I filed for a divorce today - I have a wonderful man behind me every step of the way and I am ready to begin a new chapter in my life - I am very excited.
I think of you all and you are never far from my thoughts.

I think Kathy 'EnchantedWoodsGirl' is to post the next literary question. She's been a bit busy as of late . . . Kathy? Should Tina post the next question?

Rebecca, did you get the package I sent to your post office box address? It was mailed on August 4th, and I know you were dealing with your Mom's illness plus a move to a new house. I hope it is not still sitting somewhere in a post office waiting for you to claim it. (Those cookies are going to be awfully stale by now!) Anyway, just want to make sure you did get it, since it has not come back to me yet as being undeliverable.

Thanks,

Jo

Has anyone heard from Kathy of the Enchanted Wood lately?

Kathy, are you doing okay? Hopefully, you are busy shedding your previous burdens and embracing a wonderful new life...just let us know that you are alright! Do we need to send in the Farmgirl Search and Rescue Team to find you?

Tina, I'm okay with you starting us off on the next round of play; we will let Kathy jump back into the game as soon as she's ready.

O.k. Here is the question.

Can you tell me who the poet is that penned this lovely poem?

TWO butterflies went out at noon
And waltzed above a stream,
Then stepped straight through the firmament
And rested on a beam;

And then together bore away
Upon a shining sea,—
Though never yet, in any port,
Their coming mentioned be.

If spoken by the distant bird,
If met in ether sea
By frigate or by merchantman,
Report was not to me.

I'm hoping the question isn't too difficult. I thought some could figure it out by the style, this particular poet wrote most of their stuff in this style...in a sing song type of way.

yikes, I guess the question was a bit too difficult? or if folks do/have read this poets works perhaps this poem isn't as readily recognized.
hmm o.k. let me think of another question here...

it also is a poem that many have had to memorize in school at one time or another..

can you tell me the author of this poem?

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling
The wind is passing thro'

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads
The wind is passing by.

Love the poems! Love the poet! But I've already participated, so am ineligible to answer. Good luck with that.

Has anyone any info on Kathy of the Enchanted Wood? We're in the midst of a swap and I haven't heard from her in a couple of weeks. I know she has 'stuff' going on in her life, and I hope she's OK.

Gaias Rose~~~Yippee!!! My package arrived today - and you will not believe - I have seen that magnolia pattern before and when I looked on the back, it said Homer Laughlin - and I just LOVE Homer Laughlin dishes - I have a little collection of them going and usually when I pick up a plate in a store, when I look at the back it is Homer Laughlin - it just speaks to my soul! So I will truly treasure and enjoy this teacup! And jasmine is one of my favorite teas - the wee teapot is so cute...but I am a little perplexed by the crystal hanging on the linen napkin...what am I missing- are they supposed to be together, or did they just hook up in shipping? I just love my box of goodies - thank you so much and I hope life is settling down a bit for you. Big Farm Girl Hugs! Judy

Gaias Rose ~ got my box too!! I love the teacup, it's beautiful. And the tiny teapot is adorable - yum. How did you know I collect crystals from chandeliers? This one is just gorgeous! Thanks so very much!

Hey Frannie! You guessed that one right!Emily Dickinson was the author of the first poem.I will go ahead and let you know who penned the second poem..it was Christina Rosetti..I had to memorize the poem "who has seen the wind" in 8th grade and recitre in front of the class..I gained an "A" on my recitation..

I will send you a teacup and then you in turn send me one. Then you will post a question for the next person..the person that answers correctly sends you a teacup and then you in turn send her one..then she'll post a question and so on. You'll gain two teacups from the swap.

HEy you two...the crystals, as Patricia noticed....are to hang...I have a serious obsession with crystals for light catching in my kitchen....if you take a peek in the wheel of the year thread, you will see in my kitchen altar a TON of them. They are dancing faeries in my kitchen when the sun goes Westward. Your packages were very much the same, but just a tad different too....I hope you enjoy!! Glad they got there!!

"I would not interfere with any creed of yours or want to appear that I have all the cures. There is so much to know...so many things are true. The way my feet must go may not be best for you. And so I give this spark of what is light to me, to guide you through the dark, but not tell you
what you must see."

o.k. .. my turn ... i have a sweet book all about 'tea' ... these are some excerpts from it .. all you have to do is to do a little on-line searching to see if you can come up with the title and author of the book. these are compilations .. not all the author's poems and sayings .. but thought you might all enjoy them.

p.s. the book will come along with a tea cup to the gurlfren who comes up with the title and author first. xoxo

some hints: Publisher: Storey Books .. Pownal, Vermont
copyright: 1998

"Find yourself a cup of tea; the teapot is behind you. Now tell me about hundreds of things." SAKI

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea." HENRY JAMES

Be kind and courteous to all, even to the stranger from afar. If he say to thee that he thirsteth, give him a cup of tea." CONFUCIUS

My cup runneth over with love" Jones/Schnmidt

Scottish Scones
1-3/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoon minced fresh lemon thyme
1/3 cup butter
2 eggs
1/2 cup raisins, chopped
1-6 tablespoons light cream
10-12 scones.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Combine first five ingredients in the bowl of a food processor.
Blend in butter until mixture looks like fine crumbs. Do not overmix.
In large bowl, beat 1 egg and add flour mixture.
Stir in raisins and enough of the cream so that dough forms a ball.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead about 10 times. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
Beat the other egg.
Cut dough into circles with a biscuit cutter, place circles on an ungreased cookie sheet and brush with beaten egg.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool on wire rack or serve warm.

The Daughters of Liberty supported the boycott of British tea. One patriot hosted a party to formally bid adieu to her treasured teaware:

A Lady's Adieu to Her Tea Table
FAREWELL the Tea-board with your gaudy attire,
Ye cups and ye saucers that I did admire;
To my cream pot and tongs i now bid adieu;
That pleasures all fled that I once found in you.

... No more shall my teapot so generous be
In filling the cups with this pernicious tea,
For I'll fill it with water and drink out the same,
Before I lose Liberty that dearest name.

TROPICAL COOLER WITH PINEAPPLE SAGE AND MINT

1-1/2 CUP WATER
1/4 CUP FRESH PINEAPPLE SAGE LEAVES
1 TABLESPOON FRESH GINER, MINCED
12 CUPS PINEAPPLE JJICE, CHILLED
1-1/2 CUP PAPAYA NECTAR, CHILLED
1 CUP ORANGE JUICE, CHIlLED
1/4 CUP LIME JUICE
1 QUART SPARKLING MINERAL WATER
Bring water to a boil and pour over the pineapple sage and mint leaves and the fresh ginger in a heat-Proof bowl. Steep for 15 minutes.
Strain and disard the herbs. In a pitcher, combine herb liquid with pineapple, papaya, orange and lime jujices.
Chill overnight. Just before serving, add sparkling water.
makes 2-/12 quarts

GOOD FRIENDS, GOOD CONVERSATION, GOOD TEA ...

At your next tea party .. bake a ginger spice cake with charms inside. Individually wrap a ring, coin, thimble, button and other charms in pieces of waxed paper. The person who finds a coin in her slice of cake can anticipate wealth. A wishbone grants wishes, a heart promises your heart's desire and a ring signifies marriage. A key symbolizes success, a button indicates a bachelor, and a thimble predicts a spinster.

Making Lavender Sachets
Victorian women prided themselves on their needlework skills. Linen closets and lingerie drawer were freshened with sweet-smelling herbal sacets sewn from decorative fabric scraps. Make these for each of your guests at your next tea party:

FOREVER LAVENDER SACHET
16 oz. lavender flowers
2 ox. sweete woodruff
1/2 ox. oak moss
1/2 oz thyme
8 oz. dried orange peel
4 oz. benzoin
Several handfuls of other herbs and flowers (such as peppermint, violets, and rose geranium petals)
1/4 oz mixture of cloves and anise

Combine all of the ingredients and shake occasionally during several weeks of aging.

This sweet little book includes 'tea party' ideas for each month of the year.

NOW ... what is the TITLE and who is the AUTHOR??

miz tina .. i finished up a little dolly for you .. along with her teeeensy dolly-sized vintage teacup and saucer .. and a 'pretty' hankie napkin to keep tea and crumpets from spilling on her dress.

am going to wrap her now and send her on her way. i did get your address. hope you enjoy these little prizes! xoxo

p.s. her name is Hannah Grace and she loves to read poetry .. especially Shakespere .. sooo .. she brings along with her a little book that she found on the top shelf of the library here at Sister Mercy's Foundling Home for Rag Chillun (and yes, indeed, she just about toppled off the chair she stood on to reach it!) ... she kindly asked Sister Frances Catherine if she might have it for her own. Of course, the Sister gave her a big warm hug and told her to enjoy it and to take it to the garden from time to time with her new momma and take turns reading passages.
