I’m working on a video series for the Horse Dreams badge. Are there any sisters out there who’ve volunteered at Orphan Acres or would like to?
For those who don't know, Orphan Acres is a nonprofit horse rescue and sanctuary in Viola, Idaho off US-95. They have been operating for the past 35 years based entirely on the efforts of donations, volunteers, grit, and hope. Horses come to Orphan Acres from all over the country, often placed by people who become unable to care for them after an illness or a change in their financial situation. But some of the horses also have a grimmer story; these horses are the victims of neglect and sometimes abuse that make their way to Orphan Acres by way of law enforcement and government agencies.
Is anyone in the area interested in getting together for a little Farmgirl "Work Party" and working on our Horse Dreams merit badge together? They are getting ready for haying right now and mending blankets for the winter. Plus there’s always help needed with fundraising, office work, stall cleaning, grooming, and feeding.
