This just makes me sad.....
I know that e-mailing people is free but it is just not the same as getting a handwritten letter in the mail. Anyone else feel this way?!?
I think soon they will try and get it up to 50 cents a stamp. Isn't it sad?!
Hugs,
Channah

I am really ticked off about this. The service from the post office goes down, yet the prices go up.

It may be only two cents, but it is crazy.

I don't believe for a minute that the mail service is suffering. All stuff from online that I have bought comes in the mail.

Maybe the head of the postal making 3 hundred thousand dollars a year might be cause for some of the increase.

We got a postcard the other day from a friend. For some reason it looked like about an inch had been cut off the bottom--don't know why--making it "undersized". It had a 28 cent stamp on it and an envelope attached say there was 36 cents postage do!! Go figure. JoAnn

I saw this too and man was I ticked!! The article i read said they had lost so much money last year because people just don't use the postal service anymore, so they have to raise prices to continue their service. We were wondering why it doesn't work that way in other professions? Like roofing...why can't you RAISE your price if you haven't had a job in three years? :) GRRRR...unfortunately, I love to write letters, so I'll be paying for the stamps :)

What? It seems like they just raised the prices of stamps! But this won't change my writing habits!

I also heard that after this postage rate increase the "forever" stamp that they pushed so much a few years ago will no longer be valid. I didnt buy any but that stinks for the people who did.

Personally I believe it is so we will do everything online though I don't klnow what that means for things that will be shipped. Unless they just won't bother with stamps anymore. I know they want everyone to be bill paying online. I don't do that. I still prefer the mail and a check. It all seems to be towards banking and all online too.

Wonder why they call them forever stamps if they can't be used then?

The article I had read (although I can't find the link now) had said the forever stamps WOULD still be valid...

Well, I guess I look at this increase a little differently. I always think " who the heck would deliver a letter from NH to CA for only 42 cents?" When you really sit down and think about it. . all the other services we use have been going up by way more then 2 cents. . . so even though it may be another pinch in the pocket it's not as bad as the rest of the increases we deal with. ( hmmm, they are even waiting until after the holidays to do the increase. . . unlike other companies that will do it just before)

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Channah, it is sad to see postage stamps go up. However my DS and DDIL are postal carriers and since this economical slump which also includes e-mail, they have seen their work decline. However also, my kids are union employees and have to maintain their own vehicles. That costs too. I don't know a mechanic that hasn't raised their rates. I will continue to use the USPS to pay my bills and write my thank-you notes plus send packages to keep them employed. My DS has a degree in chemistry and certificate in education, but hates teaching teenagers because of the way they behave. He says he was put here to impart knowledge, not to be a disciplinarian. The things he has told me about kids these days would never have been appreciated in my day--mostly when word got back to my parents.

Forever stamps will continue to be sold in the Liberty Bell form for 42 cents until January 1. I saw a photo of a newer forever stamp that had trees and pinecones on it. I didn't pay that much attention as to when they would go on sale.

Please keep the above in your mind. Thank you.

Hi Betty, I did not mean for this to become a debate. All I was saying is how sad it is that it is going up in price again and how hard it will be for familys like mine to pay for stamps. But thats life! Its hard and tough to get through.
I am so glad that your DS and DDIL still have jobs. So many don't now.
We are so blessed that my dad is a hard worker and that he still has a job. But we don't know how long that will last.
Anyway, sorry this thread got so many people upset.
Hugs,
Channah

Channah,
I wasn't upset with your statement. Everyone has their opinion and is respect that. I'm 68 and live on a limited income. I will purchase Forever stamps until the price goes up and use those until. My health insurance went up greatly this year, but it is the secondary insurance after Medicare. That leaves my take-home pay even more limited. I feel I am blessed to have what I do have.

I envy (green though I am) your animals and your talking about them. I would love to have animals, but covenants in my area do not allow.

Keep up the questions.

I know. I am very blessed to have animals and hope that I can keep them forever but that is in Gods hands. :)
I'm already starting one job and hope to get a second. :)

Some good points here - if you think about how much the cost of gas and transportation have increased in the last 5 or 6 years, and that postage is transported a lot of places, the price increase doesn't seem so unreasonable.

The rate increase makes me so mad I could spit fire. My X was a postal worker and they have more tricks for waisting time so that their mail route takes longer and they are excpected to delivar less. When they are being shadowed by a supervisor they walk at a snails pace so that their work load isnt increased. Oh please, I could go on for ever, its a joke....

My son is a rural carrier. He is given an alloted time to deliver his mail and if he goes over that time, he just doesn't get paid for it! It behoves him to keep his a*s in motion and get things done. He isn't allowed to leave the post office until 9:30 a.m. and must return by 5:00 p.m. His time is his own after that. He works six days one week and five the next, so he doesn't get much time off--not like most workers do. I used to be down on the postal carriers until I was one for a brief time. It is a lot of work and hard work at that.
