So my husband and I stepped onto our first farmyard animals endevear (sp?) My dad bought my three children - six little chicks a month or so ago....so now we have six little hens - growing like weeds! My husband just finished the coop and run :) We are loving it! My littlest one - Evie is 18mo and she just can't wait to get outside in the morning to "wake" the girls and open the coop door to watch them run out! My oldest, Prairie (4) loves to feed the girls our leftover apple cores, or pulp from the juicer :) This is just too much fun!
We are looking forward to farm or rather "yard fresh eggs" :)
Thanks for letting me share ladies!

Aw, that's so sweet. Just wait til they start laying eggs and the kids go find them. That's when the fun really starts. One of my grands had a friend come over with her and she helped gather eggs and got a little scared of a hen and threw a few eggs in the basket. Of course they broke. But it was kind of funny. I love the egg hunts and the kids do too. Real fun.
What kind do ya'll have?
Kris

We got six different ones so we could tell them apart and the kids could name them! We have an aracauna, barred rock, golden laced wyndotte, brauma, buff orbington, and rode island red :) So far the brauma and buff are my favorite... Thanks Sherry, and Kris my kids CANNOT WAIT! to gather the eggs...My mom has 20 hens or so and the kids love to gather eggs at her house, that's how we got interested ourselves :) hehe - its gonna be fun! |

I started last fall with my chicklettes and have not had this much fun in years! I tell my friends that I "have found my inner farm animal". Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! |

Thanks Darcy! I am just loving it - I told my mom - I didn't realize how much she enjoyed hers till we got some of our own! The kids - open the door for them in the morning and watch them cackle out...and of course dig worms for them to eat! I can't believe how chickens have personalities! It cracks me up!
