This middle aged stuff really, really bites. For some reason, my fingernails have gotten as hard as can be. They've always been very soft and crackable and now?? I have long, natural nails. Remember, I'm a flatbed truck driver...with long nails.
My hair is getting wavier (posted about this a while back).
My memory is getting worse.
I now can't eat or drink: milk, bell peppers, steak but can eat chicken or fish, yogurt, sandwich meat, beans, some cereals, carrots.
Can't take herbal supplements anymore. I get sooooo gassy and feel like I'm tied up in the middle. Never have been able to take pharma medicines, that's why I've done herbs all my life.
Middle-aged crazy...that's me! ![](icons/icon_smile_shock.gif)

If you haven't had a colonoscopy and an upper GI endoscopy - schedule it right now (please - that sounded too bossy.. ) Personally, I'd do them both at the same time. You'll save money, hassle and won't have to do the prep twice.
The hair and the memory.. that's one thing but the gastrointestinal stuff is not always "just middle aged stuff".

I can sure look into it, I have insurance to boot!
But when I get 'tied up', just need to visit the ladies room for an extended stay, if you get my drift, and things are fine. The verboten food seems to make it a bit more urgent. I'm trying to make this as pleasant as possible!! ![](icons/icon_smile_clown.gif) ![](icons/icon_smile_blush.gif)

Oh I so understand as I just too got the results of what I shouldn't be eating. Try to look to what you can eat. It's a little less overwhelming that way. It helps if you plan meals and try not to think about what is coming out of your diet. Not easy I admit as I am one week in and want a whole wheat sandwich really bad (no gluten for me).
Almond milk can be a nice substitute for cooking with. Was that just cow's milk? I can do goat but not cow so that is another option. Good luck!

I'll second the almond milk!
it's recently just become a tad more main stream and can be found in some grocer's.
I like it better than the gross rotten smell you get when trying to drink the last few swallows of cow's milk. Have been drinking almond milk for about 6 years now
And don;t feel bad, I can't eat eggs, cantelope, pineapple or broccoli ALL of which are soo good for you. |

good morning winona, hope today is better for you. i too had digestion issues. sometimes still do. if it is food from a box or restaurant i have problems. i was also having anemia issues. so after my 3d biopsiy and endoscopy they found h-pylori. a common bacteria that occurs in every ones gut. as we age these guys overpopulate. the test is done best with a tissue sample. i also want to suggest you be tested for celiac. sometimes we carry this with us undiagnosed. folks get older. systems get weaker. then the gluten issue becomes more apparent. with pylori i learned that acidic foods, preservatives in food, soap produce was washed and soaked in all upset my stomach.the dr. treated the pylori twice. i am now tested for it often. I think i have read your posts before farm girl. so i am thinking you know about enzymes in gut for digestion. kris sent me some kombucha. i am drinking it. i am impressed how things are moving right along. when i am sick with my disability i have real issues. kombucha tea seems to help keep things moving. just my thoughts and experience. hoped it might be a little helpful. the other parts about getting older... well.. i am kinda bummed at times. when papa and i were talking about the 1968 baha 1000. he said ya about 20 or 30 yrs ago. i had to laugh and say papa try almost 40. heres hoping you feel better. i also use smooth move tea as needed. it helps. in health tea isle. just a thought sherrye

Thanks for the replies and thoughts! I'll look into these things as I can. I'm temp homeless (check the Farm catagory above) and living on my big rig so have to do things as they present themselves.
I can feel/tell my innards are getting weaker, if that makes sense. My shoulder has been hurting me and I just found a lump over the joint...great, just great. My hands and fingers hurt more and I hear cracking going on too. If I sleep the wrong way, then it takes quite a while to get parts moving in one piece.
My teeth seem to have gotten looser too and I've always had great teeth. I floss almost every day and I can sure tell, besides feeling it.
My eyesight is getting better for some reason, especially distance.
Now I can king of relate to how my older, geezer horses feel... ![](icons/icon_smile_clown.gif)

Hello, First go to the doctor and have them run some blood work and test for your digestive tract. Find some Kombucha and raw fermented food at the store, eat and drink a bit every day. I dealt with digestive disorder for years and still do. But once I went more raw, less processed, added Kombucha and other fermented foods to my diet along with a good raw vitamin and probiotics things started getting back to normal. Have the gluten thing checked out. If it comes back negative try eliminating gluten anyway. I have found that eating little to none has helped me allot. Doctors like to tell us we have IBS or Fibromyalgia when they have no idea what is going on. I am not saying that those problems do not exists because I know they do but I also know that they are not my problem and my doctor took 10 years to discover my colitis and his diet suggestions almost killed me. Then when he decide I had fibro the medications he put me on I had such bad reactions too I wanted to die. When the chiro found the pinch nerve and began working on me along with acupuncture and massage I felt much better and my pain went away for the most part. Also yoga stlye excersize. Hope you start to feel better soon.![](icons/icon_smile_cool.gif)

I am not technically middle aged, but I sure can't do what I used to! Beans? FORGET IT! I love 'em....and they totally make me miserable now. Jalapenos? Love em...but my stomach screams at me if I eat too many.
I am thinking that both myself and my mother have gluten/lactose issues as well. I do know that she has an autoimmune disorder (thyroid). Anyway, sorry you aren't up to par!

Have you been tested for Gilbert's syndrome? It sounds like that is what is the matter.
