My hubby works in the oil business. His heart is broken over the Gulf spill. Everyone that he personally ever worked with went over and about to make sure that all the safety rules were in place. My hubby has jumped into pits in the past to save animals that land in it and get stuck. He always has Dawn soap with him in case.

It is very hard to keep hearing people say how greedy and not caring the oil business is. Those guys have to live and work in these cities and towns too. And we all use oil and gas. We have to find a way to find a good balance.

I just pray that this can get cleared up and cleaned up as soon as possible. It is a sad time for all Americans.

Amy, its not your husband or the men and women who he works with, its the men/women who have "NEVER, EVER" been down in the fields, or on a derek, or even ever gotten a drop of anything remotely close to dirt/oil on their bodies, and make millions a year each, driveing their gas hogs and flying in their jets that make me angry. BP knew there were problems, they knew that safety was not on the top of the list for the men and women who were on that derek, let alone the enviroment. The oil from this mess will forever change the eco-system along the gulf coast, kill thousands of animals and fish, destroy the fishing/shrimping and crabing livelyhood of hundreds, destroy the beaches, bayous and swampland, etc, etc, etc. So please for me and my family, thank your husband for what he does and has done with human and animal and the lands safety in mind.

Let your husband know we here support and thank him for the life he lives and the choices he makes. I just wish there were more like him in the boardrooms of the companies who make the big decisions. You got a good one.

as a farmgirl who has grown up in a refinery town in your neck of the woods, let me say that my comments about the oil industry are directed at the ceos not the workers.
i just pray every day that we can find alternatves to this busines. while it is dangerous and messy business, it never had to be so unhealthy and immoral for the workers or the people who live in the shadow of these giant petrochemical businesses.they have had a blatant disregard for the safety and quality of the lives of people who live around there refineries and their workers.
i know we all benefit from the work your husband does, but as a 2 time cancer survior and person who grew up in la marque, texas, i KNOW that these companies are putting everyone at risk in the name of greed.
i have already shed many tears over this spill in the gulf of mexico. this is the area of my childhood and i wonder if it will ever be the same. when i was a child and had to put up with all that it intails to live in a refinery town in the 50s and 60s, i was always at least so happy to live in a coastal area and to have the beach nearby.
i hope and pray that this will help the petrochemical companies finally come to their senses. there has to be more to this life than making money.
i dont know anyone who blames the oil worker for the oil companies policies. if they do then i think it is just misplaced anger. but i absolutely hold the oil company executives responsible for their industry, and the criticism of BP in particular is long overdue.

This can't all be laid at the feet of the Oil Companies either. My husband was a consultant for BP in Alaska until May 12, 2009. ALL the oil companies have laid off the safety consultants. It was not just BP, it was everyone that was drilling. We have friends and associates all over the country that were laid off because no one knew what the new administraton was going to do. Now we are paying and will forever pay. It is not the oil workers, only about 1/4 of the safety specialists are still working and the rest of us are still unemployed after a year because no one knows what will happen next and the oil companies aren't wanting to stretch themselves not knowing what might happen. Few people are aware of all the things we use on a daily basis that are oil based products. So many believe it is just the fuel for gasoline etc. but it is in everything plastic etc. We may be putting ourselves into a hole we can't get out of when and if we stop drilling. My husband has worked all over the world in more dangerous situatios than i care to think about and come home covered in crude oil so often i an amazed he can't fuel the car with his ruined clothes, Then he started doing environmental safety but three of the four consultants working for BP in Alaska were laid off. Conoco let all of the consultants working for them in the same region go. In this case I believe that the politicians are totally responsible. If they had responded and sent booms in when BP requested, them the spill may never have reached shore.

Amy, Blessing to you and your husband... definately a tough spot to be in- and I am sure that its not easy listening to all of the "talk" out there about "who shoulda done what" etc etc.
At this point all we can do is pray that a "fix" is found (and soon!) and that the best job possible is done to clean up and save the wildlife etc. My heart goes out to all of those directly affected. And yes- you are so correct in saying that people dont realize just HOW MANY items you use on a daily basis are petroleum based!
My thoughts and prayers are with you- and all those affected by this disaster!

Out of something very bad....there is always something very good that happens. Lets hope that all the self regulating these big oil companies were doing for themselves gets put in check big time. Humans are just so darn self destructive and all in the name of money really. Its beyond me how much money one person needs to go about living a happy life. Their greed puts us all in peril and I just want to replace all of them with the best of us to save this planet from dying. The top officials of any business make so much money while the little guy that puts himself at risk every day to keep that company alive and prosperous gets nothing really....even dies to get a paycheck. I salute your husband, Amy, every day for working so hard and with conviction to do whats right. He is the guy that matters the most out of all of them.

God Bless You!

Amy, my hubby drives a truck. Every time there is a wreck with a truck involved it's all over the news and they always blame the trucker. My hubby has only had ONE wreck in 16 years and it was NOT his fault. He always gets his safety bonuses. Always. So I know how ya feel. I feel like I have to defend my hubby all the time. But he is the safest driver out there on the road you will ever see. And I can imagine your hubby is very safe also and does his very best to not let things like this happen. It's very sad to see all the damage this will cause not only today but down the road. And it's not just one person's fault. I have a cousin that's worked on oil rigs for over 30 years now.

amy, i hope i didnt hurt your feelings with my response. this is a very emotional subject for many folks.
my dad who was my heart died as a result of a chemical leak at monsanto. it really affected our family and that is when i started my journey to understand organic and the environment.
i have never hated the worker, but i have come to question the motives and decisions of companies when they are making record profits.
so from one farmgirl to another, i will say i will pray that you and your family will not be hurt by this disaster and if i have hurt anyones feelings in any way that was not my intention.
i went to your blog and loved it and hope that we can grow as farmgirl friends even if we may from time to time have different feelings about things.
i know that you respect your husband and the work he does and let me add i do too. but on the same hand, my life has taught me some hard earned lessons that i cannot deny. i pray everyday that we can learn to loose our need for oil, and i try my best to live a life that reflects that.
please pray for me too that i can learn to express myself without causing hurt to those who might listen.
framgirl friends?
